Title: coin mechs - which one to use?
Post by: vintagegamer on June 11, 2007, 03:51:14 pm
I need coin mechs/acceptors for my pin- do they vary by brand ie Williams/Bally etc?  Or do they change according to year?

Coin mechs are pretty standard.  Except for Coin Controls mechs, they're designed to go in a Coin Controls door.

The big change between them is the coins they can take.

Many thanks Peale- since my pin will be a home-body for the time that I own it (which should be a long time), I'm just looking to pick up a used pair that will work but don't need to be top notch.  So, if you or anyone knows of any extras for sale, please let me know!

I've got a bunch, but what coin are you looking to use?  Quarter?  Token?

What machine is it? Before coin door standardization took place (around 1981) each pinball maker used different mounting methods (Williams especially). In some cases you had to transfer over mounting brackets to the coin chute you want to install.

Throw a pic of your coin door up here...... front and back.

Here's the inside of the door- the outside is just plain black with I think the stock Williams slots:

That's a Coinco (Coin Acceptors, Inc.) coin door. Any American made coin acceptor such as Coinco or Coin Mech will work in there. Coin Controls acceptors won't fit properly because they are metric and made in England.
