Title: CD trading service... Looks interesting.
Post by: crashwg on June 09, 2007, 05:32:31 pm
I was searching the web for a CD rental service like blockbuster and netflix are for DVDs.  Needless to say, I didn't find anything like that, probably because audio CDs have no copy protection.

What I did find though was this
SwapaCD.com (http://www.swapacd.com/index.php)

It does cost a small fee, 49¢ to "order" a cd.  That 49¢ goes to the SwapaCD people and when you send out a CD you're the one paying shipping but for a little over $1 you can trade a CD you're not into anymore for something that is more likely to be of use to you.

Looks really cool.  I just signed up and will shortly be posting some CDs.  While I was registering I noticed that there was a field to enter a referrer, not sure if you get anything by referring people but if you want to, feel free to use my SN which is also crashwg or my email address which is crashwg@comcast.net.

Received my first CD today.  Unfortunately it was broken...  SwapaCD should be refunding my $ and credit in the next couple days.  <edit>Got the credit and $ back and only one day later!</edit>

I'll give a better review hopefully after I've received a few working CDs.  ::)

A great place for CDs is possibly your library.  Years ago my library used to be ehh, but they recently got a new building with lots of funding and they literally have EVERYTHING for audio cds (and they always buy new stuff, and if you want something you put in a request and they get it).  So if you have access to a good library you may be interested in checking it out.

For an even cooler CD/DVD/Game trading service see http://swaptree.com

You'll need an invite to use the beta version, available here: http://www.swaptree.com/techcrunch.htm

I've been thinking about signing up for this service (and Swaptree too). Any new reports on how well it's worked? I have a few audio CDs I'll probably never listen to. Value is low so selling them makes little sense. But trading makes lots of sense because it's win-win and at negligible costs.
