Title: t-molding and amount to route
Post by: GAtekwriter on June 08, 2007, 10:10:52 am
Probably a silly question, but I'm just curious to hear some options on where to route for t-mold and where to avoid.  I think I'm fairly certain you don't put t-mold under the control panel (surface parallel to floor) but are there any drawbacks to running it over the back and top (other than just buying more t-mold)?

As far as I can tell, it looks like I should route and place t-mold on:

1.  two sides of the marquee
2.  curved area (or non-curved) starting near marquee and moving down sides to CP
3.  Just under CP base all the way to floor or base of cab

What about top and back?  Thanks for the help.

Jim

My thoughts on this is that it is personal preference.  However on my bartop I went the whole way around the side panels.  The exception being the bottom of the panel.  I only went in about 2-3 inches from the front/back.  This gave a nice clean edge and added the benefit of adding rubber feet at the same time.  ;D

I would still do that with a full size cab as well.  On a full size cab though I would make sure that it had wheels that lifted the cab about 1/4" - 1/2" off the floor.

TTFN

Great question Jim -

I've found that the easiest way to determine the amount to route is to use this simple formula:

Hope this helps.  ;)

I'd put t-molding on all exposed edges of plywood/MDF - I would build my cab to only have those areas on the side panels though.

I did 360 all the around the side panels. I even went under the CP box. I figured it would help protect the edge under the CP. .Honestly you don't even see it much under there and it doesn't bother me at all.
