Title: What exactly is Jamma?

I'm a little confused on what Jamma is.  I know they are a set of pcbs, but thats about it.  How do they work?  I here about swapping and stuff,  Im just confused and have been wondering.

It's a "standard" kind of like how the S-VHS output on your DVD player is a "standard".
