Title: Scrolling through tthe list of games in Mala (default) is SLOW

I've just installed MaLa, following UncleT's excellent instructional guide.

One thing I've noticed / experienced, is that scrolling through the games list is really slow. I'm comparing it to how my old cab went with advmenu, where joystick right would make the list move down 'one page'. This doesn't seem to happen with Mala. Also, I don't remember if holding the joystick down kept the menu moving, but even so it feels slow.

I'm just wondering what changes can be made to the software to make the list scrolling faster? Is it some setting? A plug-in someone has written for Mala?

You should be able to make you list fly through....  ;D

I'm sure it is just a setting thing.

Send me your mala.ini and I will have a look  :)

I remember MaLa feeling sluggish when I first tried it (after toying with MameWah) but now it scrolls entirely fast enough for me.

Three things I have set (MaLa 1 RC8 on the machine I'm using now - other versions may vary but I can't check):

Speed the video
From the main list screen, right-click > options > GUI tab > Options Tab >

Speed the input
From the main list screen, right-click > options > Controller tab > Keyboard Tab >  Options Tab >

Speed the animation
From the main list screen, right-click > options > Controller tab > Options Tab >

Hope this helps.  Harsher settings on some of those just made MaLa unstable for me, so keep that in mind.

  • Enable display delay set to 100
  • Tick only "text" under exceptions and leave the rest switched off

Speed the input
From the main list screen, right-click > options > Controller tab > Keyboard Tab >  Options Tab >
  • Key repeat (ms) set to 50

Speed the animation
From the main list screen, right-click > options > Controller tab > Options Tab >
  • Check the "use scrolling acceleration" box
  • Acceleration speed 8

Loadman, I never got back to you on this, but thanks for the offer to look at my ini file (sounds dirty...)

I'm waiting on the v115 romset to arrive, and in the meantime have focused my efforts elsewhere (ie configuring software, getting pinmame going nicely).

Sluggish menus aren't an issue considering I've got only a single rom to test with (Wonderboy).

I figure with both of us being southern Sydney guys I might get you over to help with some MaLa stuff when the time is right.
