i installed my arcade vga to my betson 27" tri sync. I installed the drivers and installed the tri sync utility.. i then ran avres. All the games do look a lot closer to their arcade counterparts put i'm having a few issues. Parts of the screen like like unmoving type seem to be 'moving' and shifting, and overall something seems wrong with the refresh rates.. its giving me a headache. The games seem to have excessive scan lines , but they are all running in the right resolutions or the closest thing to them.. maybe i just don't remember the games looking this way. The monitor also gives a high pitch ringing when a game is launched.. is that normal?
I did set all games to direct draw, no hardware stretch and to swith res automatically like they say to on the avga site.
what about vsync though? with it unchecked i get ugly 'screen tears' but with it checked the games lag BAD.

Not sure about the refresh thing, but the scanlines can be minimized by sizing down the image a bit. Those old horizontal CGA games were not really meant to be run on a 27" screen anyway.
Have you installed the multisync patch from ultimarc? It really helps on 640x480 and above with the flicker.

is the multisync patch the same thing as the tri sync utility? if so then yes i installed it

ahofle, where is this patch you're talking about?
And downsizing the image defeats the purpose of the size of the monitor. Billabs has a 19" multi-sync. I agree the scanlines are very pronounced. As well, the avga somehow makes the monitor display more brightly. Soft-15khz doesn't do this. However, you get used to both, and then it's like anything else isn't good enough. I know, Andy is really part of a big brother cult - HAHAHAH.
Um, anyway, many scrolling games need 'triple buffer' checked. Some non-scrolling games do, too, but they're rare. The sound, though, that's just what happens with the technology at those resolutions. In a cab, you probly won't hear it.
Also, you can try out advancemame and 'scale' the image up to a higher resolution and add effects. Advancemame is the only version I know that actually will make the image the full size of the monitor when doing this (usually by using 'fractional' in the resizing effect in the tab menu). It has an assload of parametres within 'mame'. However, some of the more esorteric things require augmenting an 'rc' file, similar to an ini.

i fixed the tearing with triple buffering, thanks..
my main real gripe is that white pixels 'jitter' but it only seems to be white areas of the games.

Don't know what you mean by that one.
-
i turned the 'moire' to 0 and it went away.

Oh yeah. Turn it way up and the whole image gets squirly. I have no idea what that function is for.
