Title: Sharp XM-2001N 19" Atari-find the red/white wire connection???
Post by: ifkz on June 06, 2007, 09:33:37 am
Last night I finally got around to installing a cap kit in the Sharp XM-2001N in my Atari Xybots.  I think the monitor is also used in some Nintendo games.  I put everything back together per my pictures, but I'm left with this red and white wire left over.  It is coming out of what looks like a mini iso seperate from the main motherboard on the monitor chassis.  I must have spent over an hour playing where's waldo with this darned wire.  I even looked at the schematics in the orginal service manual.  Can anyone help???

That sounds like the speaker wiring used in Nintendo applications.

Hi Ken,

Well, there was one unused one when I started, I wouldn't doubt it was for a speaker.  But I know this red and white one was hooked up to something.  I've even matched it to the plastic motherboard twisty ties that hold the other cables out of the way.  I still can't figure out where it went...it's annoying to be this close to finishing the rebuild only to be held up by this darned wire!

Sounds like the speaker output.  Are they (relatively) large wires, say 16-18 AWG?

Check out my pics...

Rick

Thanks rockin_rick, the red/white wire that I was talking about is clearly visible in your second picture.  It is coming out of the red mini-iso looking part.

Anyhow here's an update on this thread.  I poured over the original manual, and I found one figure that listed every connector on the board.  They weren't labeled, but I could see they all had wires in them so I figured the red/white wire wasn't used.  I was right!

The cap kit fixed up my picture and the monitor now looks great!  I'm always happy when I find that I didn't fry the monitor!   :applaud:
