I'm looking to maximize CP functionality with minimal clutter. Randy's GPWIZ49 looks to be a real contender. I prefer the old school look of the balltop sticks so one of his versaball 49 replacement sticks would be in order. If I'm reading his site correctly, these replacement sticks are only compatible with the new(est) 49 way sticks from Happ. Should I consider the grommet upgrade as well or is it only made for the older Midway style sticks?
Any input from anyone using this or a similar configuration would be greatly appreciated.

The Midway grommet will not fit the Versa49 sticks. The diameters are different, Midway's is smaller. You will need the grommet upgrade from GGG.

I have the new Happ/Midway 49 way joysticks with the replacement grommets that RandyT sells. I also have the red Versa49 balltops and I love the complete setup. You may have to fiddle with the stock spacers to get the replacement balltops to be the optimal height, depending upon your taste, but I find that the replacement grommets are definitely a necessary purchase for the newer sticks. The stock grommets were just way too squishy and slightly slow/inconsistent to return to center.

This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for.
Thanks a million.

Just to throw it out there, you may also want to consider the Ultimarc UltraStik 360. They have a huge range of functionality, which means no clutter. Also, it's a modified Sanwa, meaning that there are a lot of different balltops available that can easily be switched out, no need for extra shafts or grommets.

Whats better the 49 way or the Ultra360's?

It is a matter of personal taste. The only difference that I know about is the length of the throw. The U360s have a much shorter throw than the 49-way.
