I just got my Billabs monitor and it has two VGA ports, one connected and one that connects with a cable. What one should I use with the AVGA?
1. says Analog 07VPP 75 ohm, 31-50KHz
2. says TTL 2.5-5.0VPP 15/24KHZ
what one?
-
looks to me like 1 is vga and above(pc graphics cards),and 2 is cga/ega(standard jamma, arcadevga)
so if you are using a pc with a standard graphics card then use 1
if you have a jamma setup use 2
-
PC with the AVGA card so that would be number 2 correct?
What happens if I hook it to the wrong one?
thanks

with arcade vga set at 15khz use no.2,if you use the wrong input you will get either multi screen or sinc issue's.as long as its not connected for a very long time i can't see any damage being done
-
thanks

I think it's just as grantspain said - the 'indigenous' input for your computer, the other for jamma. Although this seemed to be the case (at least the first part, as I wanted a vga PnP monitor) with all the major multi-syncs, I asked Billabs personally. They said yes.

Can I use Ultimarc's Tri-Sync Utility on this monitor if I use port number 2?

Unless you want some nasty flicker in your desktop, you might.

so is that a yes? can't till if you are being sarcastic

I'm being cooly ironic. Yes. A little courage can go a long way. Also, there is some new information on using the AVGA in the wiki.
-
So I should use port number 2 and the Try-Sync utility. I should also be able to run windows at 1024x768 and most MAME games will run at the native resolution with out me having to change anything correct?
Just want to make sure I understand everything before I hook it up this weekend.
thanks

Yes, on the latter part. I don't call the outputs by number so I don't know which you're talking about. Per the wiki: VGA port for arcade monitor, DVI port for PC. Yes, just hook it up, make sure your desktop doesn't exceed the monitor's max, install the tri-sync utility, restart, then go and mess with mame resolutions. Try a few, see what you get. If you want, you can then go and try out a resolution utility (avres or the mameres tool - avres is easier). Some of them work, some don't, some will conflict with other resolutions when image sizing them.

thanks, as for the port number is was in my first post. It's dealing with the ports on the monitor

Most of those digital multisync monitors will accept the full range of input signals (in terms of scanning rate) on all their inputs. If the Billabs is like that, you'd want to use port #1 as the video levels and input termination are correct. In most cases, digital multisyncs will shut down if they cannot handle the input signal, rather than sustaining damage, but be on the lookout the first time you turn it on.
#2 is set up for significantly higher input levels as often found with arcade boards, which a PC video card will not output. Things will be extremely dim without a video amplifier (or cranking the contrast control way high). Also, according to the specs you gave, this input cannot handle anything over EGA (medium res). Again, I'm guessing it'll handle them just fine, but be on the lookout if you do use this input and want to feed it VGA.
#1 is your best bet.

Oh, right, I forgot. Yeah, like I said early on to that part: it comes VGA-ready, so use that input.

So I should use port number "1" and the Try-Sync utility. I should also be able to run windows at 1024x768 and most MAME games will run at the native resolution.

Yes. It's pretty straight-forward, man.

sweet, thanks
