Title: control panel plans
Post by: krazy_kenny1 on May 31, 2007, 03:33:08 pm
I haven't drawn anything up yet, but I wanted to run my ideas about connectivity by everybody.  I think I want a 2 player panel with 6 buttons per player.  There will also be player 1 and 2 start buttons and 4 admin buttons (enter, escape, tab, and pause).  Both joysticks will be ultrastik360's to avoid having dedicated 4-way sticks.  I will also have a 3" usb happ trackball and a turbotwist2 spinner.  What I'm thinking is:

connect each set of six player buttons directly to the appropriate joystick which then plugs in to usb.

connect all other buttons to a keywiz.

connect the trackball and spinner directly to usb.

I know I could connect the player buttons to the keywiz as well, but is there any real reason to do that over connecting them to the joysticks?  Also, coin insertions will be connected to the keywiz and handled either by actually inserting a coin or by pushing in the appropriate coin eject button.  Does this all sound good?  What changes or suggestions does anyone have?

nobody?  I thought this would be a relatively simple "ya, that all looks good" or "you need to change this" kind of post :dunno

Honestly, that setup seems fine. It really doesn't matter which interface you use, so long as it gets to mame.

I'd say, start drawing up some CP designs.

Just finished doing that...

Really IMO it depends on your CP layout.  How big is the CP your building?  It seems that all the buttons your thinking of having on your CP I have incorporated in my second and most recent CAB.  I have:
2 player Magstik plus joysticks
6 buttons each
TT2 Spinner-USB
Happs 3" Trackball-USB
GGG Topfire Joystick
2 mouse buttons
2 hidden admin buttons
Keywiz max encoder

I'm thinking of getting 2 U360's & maybe using the Minipac encoder for this CAB since it's on sale through June  I'm not sure cause I used a Keywiz max on another CAB of mine and it's super easy to use/connect/modify, etc.

It looks like you have a good idea about what you want so now the fun part begins...working on the CP.  Have fun and good luck.
