Title: First post - question about multi PCB/Jamma
Post by: Arm123 on May 30, 2007, 10:38:00 pm
Hey everyone, this is my first post and id like to extend my greets to all   ;D

I have a question about getting multiple Jamma / PCB boards into one cabinet.  I want to consolidate my old cocktail tables.  I have done some looking around and i see many multi Jamma adaptors that claim to be the best.  I have a couple questions for the peeps who are in the know...

I have some pre-Jamma PCBs and am wondering if anyone has used a muti device for these older games ?  Would it be possible to use a PCB -to- Jamma conversion on these older games, then attach to the multi Jamma ?

I am wondering anyone would like to share their thoughts on any particular multi Jamma product models ?

Thanks guys, any suggestion / comments are most welcome.

First, welcome to the boards!

Yes, you can typically (in my experience) use JAMMA adaptors for older boards in conjunction with a JAMMA switch.

As far as preferences for JAMMA switches, I own one of Clay's Multi-Jamma (http://www.multigame.com) kits and love it. Depending on the game, however, it can pose some problems since all boards are powered-up. At one point, I had Surf Planet and GT2K both installed in that cabinet. Unfortunately, they both use standard JAMMA controls for volume, so normal play in one game resulted in significant volume shifts in the other. When someone would hit the "Change Games" button, the volume would either disappear or shoot through the roof.

There are a few threads on here discussing the merits of the various options ... I would suggest a search on Multi-Jamma to start.

Cheers.

Thanks !  and thanks for the speedy reply man !..

Yes, i have googled that term and am going threw the FAQ and forums for different products to see the various issues.  Some multi Jamma kits have strange issues, like not being able to connect a trackball, sound issues etc...  Ill check out your kit and keep reading.

Im just thinking about how cool it would be to consolidate some of my light gun games into one aswell    ;D

Any other replies / experiences are much appreciated.  :)

I have a couple of multi-JAMMA setups.  I have quite a few pre-JAMMA boards that I use adaptors for (Time Pilot, Kangaroo, BombJack, MagMax, Flicky, City Connection).  They all work great.  Depending on the game though, I have to make slight adjustments to the monitor brightness.  I've also adjusted the monitor size so that the games that display the biggest are mostly on the screen and games that display smaller don't use the full screen.

I don't use any commercial multi-Jamma.  I wired the cabinets myself and made the JAMMA connector extra long.  When I want to switch a game, I open the back up and move the connector :P

I also installed 2 switches on the monitor wires to the yoke so that I can switch vertical games since there was no standard on the early games as to which side was up.  Most of the newer JAMMA games have a dip switch to "flip screen".

Good luck with your project
