Title: HELP.. I don't have any yellow
Post by: grounded on April 18, 2003, 01:02:43 pm
I've got a wierd question.... I have a known good WG 4900 + an ArcadeVGA + WinXP....

The picture is readable, but the color is a bit off. I've noticed that it won't display the color YELLOW no matter which way I turn the R G B pots on the back. I have installed the VGA card properly according to Andy's instructions. Any help would be great,

Thanks

Yellow consits of closely equal portions of Red+Green (On a RGB tube that is :)

Which pots are you fiddling with?  There are different pots that do different things on each monitor.

Some are "Drive" pots that affect the overall brightness of the gun and others are "cutoff" pots that affect the minimum signal level it takes for the gun to turn on.

Each control the picture differently.

It's strange that you say all the other colors look good, since Yellow is a simple combination of 2 of the base colors.  It's usally a core color (RGB) that is missing.

Is your monitor magnetized? (You say the color is off)... is the degaussing circuit working correctly?

Did you get the VGA break out cable too ?

When I bought my ArcadeVGA + VGA breakout cable, it turned out Ultimarc's suppliers had changed the colour coding of the wires without saying anything, and after tracing the wires back to the VGA connector I found :

> The cable labelled R goes to pin 1 (correct)
> The cable labelled G goes to pin 3 (incorrect)
> The cable labelled B goes to pin 4 (incorrect)

This meant that R was going to R, G was going to B and I had no G from the card.

Yes, I am using the VGA breakout cable from Andy at ultimarc. (purchased about a month ago)

Here is a more detailed example of my problem:

Colors that are supposed to be yellow are instead red
Drk. Blue is instead green
Purple is instead white
Some greens are instead black.

I'm trying to get a hold of Andy but he is on vacation. Do you know the new color codes to use on these new cables??

Thanks a lot
