Title: How to set sensitivity for TT2 spinner and mouse in MAME32?
Post by: mimic on May 28, 2007, 09:57:31 pm
I know I saw a thread about that, of course now that I have one (spinner) can't find it!
Arkanoid doesn't feel right, but Tempest is just unplayable. If I spin fast, instead of making full 360 turn it starts to jitter back and forth.
Same goes for trackball. Tried with Crystal Castles, unplayable. I roll the ball like crazy and It will barely move in any direction. Don't know what In game settings mean: track analog, dec, inc. Anyone can point me into the right direction?

just turn down the sensitivity in 'analog controls'.

Specifically, "Track X Analog" and "Track Y Analog".  Don't bother with the "inc" and "dec" settings as they are only for using a joystick as a mouse.

Both.  After starting a game, press 'tab' and go to 'input this game' (or input general to set it for all games).  There you will see the input settings.

Speaking about these sorts of devices, what should the windows mouse sensitivity be set at when using a TT2 and Happ USB Trackball?

You generally leave them as is. And on Mame, I know there's a doc, but having been through it, it could use a rewrite and re-organisation...although, maybe they should make it so that you HAVE to read it before being able to use it.

There is actually a slight issue with this.  Because of the TT2's very high resolution, it will move the cursor many times faster than an arcade trackball.  So if you adjust sensitivity for the trackball, the TT2 will probably move too fast -- if you adjust for the TT2 the TB will be too slow.  If I remember correctly, leaving it as defaulted in windows is best (and then dialing down sensitivity for the spinner games in MAME for the TT2).  You could also get a trackball booster kit from GGG to give the trackball more resolution.

I wish windows would let you set each mouse's settings separately.  My laptop has four mice (desktop mouse, touch pad, travel mouse, & presetation mouse) with four different speeds (fast, slightly slow, very slow, & medium, respectively).  It's a pain changing the mouse sensitivity speed and accelaration exhancement level each time I change which mouse I use; it's not a quick switch.
I wish the same in mame, for each axis on both mice & analog joystick devices, but since it's (remotely) possible I could fix this, I won't mention it.  Maybe the on-the-horizon input change (http://www.mame.net/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/showpost.pl?Board=mamegeneral&Number=205730&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=AaronGiles&Match=Username&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=1month) will fix it.... ;)

They might each have their own drivers to install, vs using the default windows ones, in which case, they have their own front ends and, hence, settings. I recently got a Griffin Powermate (tried it as a spinner, but not quite the resolution; almost, though) and this has its own drivers, etc.

I'm not so sure it would be worth the effort in MAME anyway because you typically have to adjust the sensitivity on a per game basis anyway.   :dunno

Apparently, wether or not this matters depends on mame version and windows version.  Check out:

This is discussed later in the thread.
