Is this happening with all sounds?

Is this happening with all your games?

Are sounds actually fully repeating, or doing a sort of stuttered repeat to completion?

(In other words, a little more description would be helpful.)

I've noticed it's pretty common for MAME to choke on games that, as I understand it, are still not very well emulated.  NFL Blitz comes immediately to mind.  Even on my dual core system, Blitz's announcer takes a good several seconds just to say "Welcome to NFL Blitz!" If it were written out it would look something like

"Wel-el-come-um to-ooh-ooh En-en-n Ef-f El-el-L BLI-IH-ITZ-Z-Z!" (with accompanying stutters in the video.)

Does that approximate what you're experiencing?

its like a stuttered repeat.  the problem is, its doing it for games like double dragon and final fight. so yes its doing it for all games.

i would expect it for like mortal kombat.

but not for the smaller games.

could it be the version i am running? should i download an older version of mame?

You haven't listed your hardware specs, or your version of Mame.  But I can say that stuttering sound is a classic symptom of running a game when your system can't support it at full speed.

thanks for the posts.

i tried using an older version of mame and it has fixed the problem.

i have around a 1gz computer so i dont expect to run Mortal Kombat, etc, however it was doing it with everything.

maybe the latest  version of mame was slowing down the computer, not sure, anyway i am good to go.

thanks again.
