Is a professional monitor with rgbhv as good or better than a regular tv with component video where consoles and superguns are concerned? And what are the reasons for this, I tried comparing them but it seems like apples and oranges

How would you hook your console to an RGBHV connection? For consoles, personally I would stick with a TV with component since they are mostly designed for that. For PC emulation/MAME, I'd go with RGB.

well i was merely wondering if the picture quality on a nec multisync monitor is better than an anaolog tv with component and what makes it better.
-
Yea, it's definitely better. It's better for the same reason that svideo is better than composite and that component is better than svideo. When you can separate your signals there is less degradation.
Component is a close second to rgb though.
The nec multisync is better than a tv for a lot of reasons though. It can run multiple resolutions and higher resolutions. Plus it has a finer dot pitch.

Giving it totally away, here: there's a clue in the 'multi-sync' part.
