Hey all!
I was pretty happy with the vivanonno emulator, but had to drop it due to lack
of 'start-up-in-fullscreen-with-RaveRacer'...so no good for arcade cabinet.
Then I saw the 0.4 Model 2 emulator with Desert Tank etc., and that has the same
problem. :hissy:
Is there any way I can get one these emulators to work with a frontend? What I would
like the most is vivanonno with Rave Racer...otherwise I have to wait to the PC gets
really fast :)
Thanks,
Nicholas

I've written a wrapper for the Model2 emulator which is available as part of the GameEx install.
-
Hey!
Can you tell me what it does? can it solve my problem?
Does anyone know if the Model2 emulator work with a PC wheel?
Thanks!
Nicholas

Yes it does solve your problem, its a wrapper. In general a wrapper does what needs to be done to have the emulator run in fullscreen mode in an arcade cabinet. That's what the wrapper does. I have written it specifically for GameEx though, so it won't work with other FE's out of the box. I have considered writing a special version for other FE's but havn't got around to that yet. If your happy to use GameEx then it works out-of-the-box. For other FE's you need a generic wrapper. I believe AtomicFE has a Model2 wrapper too in it's Model2 plug and play module, so that is another alternative.
If the emu itself doesn't support the mouse wheel, I doubt a 3rd party wrapper could help you there.
-
There is a Model 2 emulator and wrapper included with the Arcade and Arcade Enhanced Plug and Play modules, but just like the GameEx situation, it's made for AtomicFE use. However, it hasn't been updated in a while, and is based on the 0.1 version, so it may not even work if you updated the Model 2 program within the module...
-
There are no commandline wrapper for this one (so it can been used with all FE'S)? I asume it can been done with autohotkey.
If I have roms for this emulator, I would try to create one, but not this time.
-
Then there's hope :)
Does that mean I can use GameEx, and then everything will autostart
into the game or a list so I can choose?
Well, I prefer Mala, but you can't have everything ;D
So Vivanonno is forgotten these day, then?
Thanks for the replies!!

What is Vivanonno ???

Hey loadman!!
Vivanonno is an emulator that run Ridge Racer and Raveracer :)
-
You Said you could not get fullscreen with mala but did you manage to get MaLa to load a particular game? If so how?

I currently run the newest version of the Model 2 emulator with Mala in fullscreen. The newest version has a menu item called Auto Switch to Fullscreen. I use closemul so that the ESC key exits.
In other words, to run Daytona from a batch file (which I do because I combine the M2 games with the other Mame games in the same gamelist), use:
closemul.exe emulator.exe daytona
Be forewarned, if you are running a rom with only 3 letters, M2 parses the rom name as an extension for some reason. Therefore to get all roms to run properly you have to use:
closemul.exe emulator.exe zip daytona rar
That will work for both daytona and von, for example.
Also, unfortunately you will see a quick flash of the M2 gui before it goes to full screen.

:P You can Emulate Daytona now ??????? :D
I have not been this excited since I found out that GaLaga could be emulated about Tens years ago
Sweet...
I will need to investigate... 8)

:P You can Elulate Daytona now :D
The latest version 0.5a does a great job with Daytona and about 30 more games.

Just wanted to second what SGT said - the latest version is pretty sweet. Theres the odd bit of wrong coloured skies or reflections but most stuff works. I've even got Virtuas Cop and HoTD working with my light guns :) Best bit of all was they just worked ! Didnt have to do any messing about.
I love Sega 24hr GT but I'm a bit rubbish at it - probably because I'm using a joystick and not a wheel.
Oh, and the "Switch to fullscreen" thing works so theres no need for a wrapper.

I think I can clear up the confusion..... Model 2 emu's auto-fullscreen does indeed work, but you can't set it va the menus, you need to set "autofull=1" in the emulator.ini. Unfortunately, the game doesn't exit on escape so you still need a wrapper. My generic command line wrapper should work just fine, simply remove all the zinc entries (no command-line translation necessary, so you don't need to add m2-specific ones).

Howard, the new version of M2 has a menu item to put a check beside Auto Switch to Fullscreen. The problem is you still see the gui flash just before it goes to full screen AND as you pointed out, you need a wrapper to ESC out.
-
Yeah I'm aware of that, it's just it doesn't always work and save the settings for some reason.
-
Mala can set the exit to ESC but other emulators would need a wrapper. Works for me anyway !
Most of the emulators I use flash up either a dos box or window just prior to going fullscreen. I think MAMEWah was able to hide them but Mala doesnt - but then I've not actually looked for the option anwhere !

Do you have the Hidden option checked? See the attachment.

But I bet it is.
Cheers I'll give it a go !

SGT is going to put me out of the 'MaLa Support' Business :laugh2:
My Daughter and I were playing Daytona and Sega Rally last night (using Model 2).
It makes me want to build a driving Cab... Can it be made of of scrap Pine like my 'Guitar Hero' Guitar ? ;)

You'll never guess who taught me the screen capture with a red circle trick. 8)

SGT,
works a treat. Can't beleive I missed that.

PS checkout Sega 24hr - excellent !

It would be nice to play Daytona on my driving cab. What type of computer specs do you need to play this (generally speaking)? Also is this Model 2 emulator a standalone emulator or must you have Mame configured as well .... for some reason?
-
I can only tell you what spec my machine is - 1.8 GHz Athlon, 1Gb RAM, 128Mb Ati graphics. And Daytona runs fine - just a few glitches with the speech and music (but not enough to put me off). All the games run fine on my machine (running at 640x480).
The emulator is stand alone - nothing to do with mame. Each game has its own "config" in that you can setup the input via the gui. I seem to remember theres a "service" button too - either F1 or F2 for calibrating controls, setting country code (usually JPN, USA or EXP).

I think I'm going to have to check this out. Is there a list anywhere of all the games fully supported? I see some listed in the readme, but not a comprehensive list...
-
I am assuming when you load a ROM file, then the game does not start, but instead you can set up your key mappings for that particular game which is then stored in an INI file? Guess I need to load a ROM file and take a look. It is a shame I am at work right now.
Are there any motorcycle games which are emulated yet?

Sweet! Thanks SGT!
-
Manx TT is on the list of games on my machine but I dont think it works - or I might not have the roms.
There are some good games on there. The lightgun games work very well with my LCD topgun.
Mentioned this before but I think Super GT 24hr is excellent as is Dynamite Cop.

Are these games considered "Mame Roms" which can now be played on the Model 2 emulator instead of within Mame?

Yes these are Mame roms. Be forewarned that the Daytona rom was changed recently and was hard to find a few weeks ago. It may be easier now.

SGT:
Where did you find the list of supported games? I would like to bookmark it to keep track of newer releases.
Also, is there a complete list of all available Model2(a/b) game names out there somewhere?

I got Daytona working and figured out I need to set the "Link Id =Single" and I can play it. Pretty cool.
However, for some reason, when I exit the emulator and go back into it, then the LinkId setting is lost. Is there any way to save this setting in the emulator yet so I do not have to keep setting it when I restart the emulator?

I only had to set it to standalone once. Any chance your nvdata folder or daytona.dat is set to read-only? Have you tried setting it and exiting from the emulator via its gui intead of a forced exit from a wrapper?
-
Not using a wrapper. Doing all of this manually for fun right now. I tried a few times to start the emulator (not full screen mode) and then selected Daytona and it wants me to resetthe LinkId again. I then decided to set the "Auto Fullscreen" setting via the menu bar and play the game in fullscreen .... pretty cool. Anyway, right before leaving for work this morning, I fired up Daytona (to show the kids) and it went right into fullscreen mode and did not ask me for the LinkId stuff.
I need to test again when I get home, but perhaps having the "Auto Fullscreen" set now permanently matters for some reason? Anyway, I am not at home to test this.
-
To solve the problem of Daytona not saving the LinkId setting or for that matter any game saving its setting the solution is simple. After you load the game and make your setting, simply click on “Unload Rom” from the emulator menu. The reason for this is if you just exit the game the “nvdata” will not be written or saved.
