Check out this remote controlled electrical outlet. (http://www.surpluscomputers.net/store/main.aspx?p=ItemDetail&item=CES11200)
Anyone use one of these in their cabinet? I'm thinking I might give it a whirl for my upcoming bartop. Requiring the remote to turn it on could be a double edged sword, though. Nice to control access (especially for kids) but maybe not as convenient. Heck, I could see using these to control access to my daughter's electronics arsenal.

Can't you just unplug it and plug your devices straight into the socket?
Pretty interesting idea for MAME cabs though.

Don't let your low budget poorly operate your life.
:dunno
Odd thing to have in the product desc. I bought a couple of those as Xmas gifts this past year but have no idea how well they worked.
Yeah, to effectively control access, you'd have to build a little locked box so they couldn't remove the cab plug from the remote socket.

Looking around, I found them on geeks.com even cheaper at $15.99. Might be even cheaper elsewhere.
Who's the manufacturer? No site I found so far mentions the manufacturer and the strange advertising blurb makes me think these are cheap POS from China or something. caveat emptor.

If you wait around until holiday decorations are on retail shelves, you can get all sorts of outdoor grade remote control outlets for good prices. Far far better than these.

Looks like translate.google.com mangled the translation. If you put it back through google again you get:
别让预算低,经营不善的人生.
Loose translation:
"Dont wait until your life stops operating effeciently due to a lack of control over your household appliances"
Hope that helps.

No, that's still pretty odd. ;D

Okay, how about:
"No need to ever remove your arse from your Lazy Boy again."

Unless those outlets can fetch a cold beer, everything important while sitting in the recliner is already remotely controllable. :)

My daughter is 3 so it's still easy to pull these things off.

I use an X10 appliance module with a wired remote for turning on the juice to my cab:

Does that accept 3-prong "grounded" cords or just 2 prong?
-
Seems kind of expensive unless you already had the x10 stuff around for other purposes.

The X10 appliance module will accept a 3 prong. And yah I had them sitting around but you can find good deals on x10 stuff on ebay.
