I am no longer offering a chip install service as my friend who does the soldering has officially retired from modding. I will still be selling chips for those who are interested.
I'll make another post for that separately down the road.
All customers who have sent their wii's will still be completed, so no worries. If you are concerned, feel free to contact me at any time

I use Fry's Store Brand, GQ (Good Quality, haha) for my wii Backups via wiikey, and they work perfectly...
You can get them for about $19 for a 100 pack, which hey, for less than the cost of a "Greatest Hit" game, to have 100 games, is WELL Worth it to me...
But it is a shame I can't use any of the 480 DVD+R's I got paid to take ;)

BTW what is FRY's someone told me its circuitcity in the south under another name is that true?
guess nto check CC site and not GQ so I guess I was wrong sucks owell guess I could oreder them online thanks for info!

Nope, Fry's is just a Retailer that is mainly in California and Texas
...Think of a Best Buy....Double the size....Add in a Radio Shack and Everything you need to build a computer...and Everything else you could need for the most part, even a Nice area of Snacks/Sodas...and then most importantly, Subtract the customer service and knowledge of english (Not being mean here, just honest...)...haha, and you have a Fry's
But yeah, Fry's is Outpost.com, and most of their specials are in-store Only...
And just in case anyone is interrested, I've seen the GQ Media shows up as SONY media once in a drive....But yeah, I've been VERY Impressed with their Media, and NEVER Had a bad Disc *Knock on wood*...

thanks for info in anycase I can still use maxell but I have had 2 bad so far out of a 30pack
owell if it sthe drive causeing the issues with media is there adjustments that can be made to use all media ?????
I remebr people adjusting xbox drives to read media but as wii drives arnt to easy to just replace I think I woudlnt try it anyway lol

Good to know, I've got some buddies who might want to mod their wii's, but I'm not a great solderer so I wouldn't want to roll the dice with their system.
Might be sending some traffic your way.
Also, I've had little to no problems with my DVD-Rs, they're 4x discs burned at 2x. Generic CompUSA dvds.

What is the legality of this? Do the mod chips include any copyrighted material such as BIOS firmware?

Pretty much all of the Wii modchips are actually drive-chips. So, no copyrighted info in them.
Last I checked, they were being sold in the US legally. They have legitimate uses (such as being able to buy and play Japanese games, or play gamecube homebrew). Nintendo made a bad decision in region-locking the Wii, so a lot of people are getting them solely for that reason.

And after modding mine last weekend, I noticed the complete lack of "remove this sticker removes your warranty" stickers.
I'm kinda curious if I voided my warranty... or if they could really do anything legally about it...
but great for backing up titles for those who have kids who treat dvds like crap..

yeah, the mod community is aware of that board, but they are not convinced that they are production yet. the pictures released so far look like refurbished boards, but regardless, if we get boards like that, chances are we wont be able to mod those, so we'd just return the wii and wont charge for the service. Shipping is still the responsibility of the owner.
also note that the board in question is in Japan only as of right now.

what modchips are you including in the package? (just curious as to what you are using, i am assuming home brew possible wiifree or yasom)

would like to give everyone a heads up about Hoagie_one's wii mod service.
first off let me start off by saying that his business and communication skills are top notch. any questions or concerns i had he answered quickly for me.
as far as the job itself, Mike went above and beyond my expectations. the mod didn't take for some strange reason but he and his partner kept trying (checking solder points, laser etc...) where as some may have given up and they got it working perfectly. i could rant on and on about the job but i'll keep it short and sweet and just tell anyone that is thinking of getting a wii modded should definately go through him. Thanks again Mike for the excellent work as it's very much appreciated

Well, I just opened up my Wii and three of the pins on the chip are indeed cut (purchased mine a little over a week ago). So does that mean it's pretty much unmoddable?

no actually. There are tutorials on how to mod them, but its risky. You literally have to take a dremel and grind down to the pins so that you can solder the wires.
We can do this for you, but there will be an additional charge over our normal fee's and there is a risk that your wii may be harmed as its a very risky procedure.

Some Questions I have been getting asked a lot lately and some answers.
What payment options to you use?
Paypal is preferred, but other options are available.
Do you stock commercial Chips?
No we don't. We find the cheapest option is the home brew route as they have 99% of all the features of the commercial chips at a fraction of the cost.
But I want a Commercial Chip (Cyclowiz\wiikey\etc.)
No problem, just include your chip of choice with the console and we'll install it for $40 ($5 off our normal install price)
What is your normal turnaround time?
We do most of our modding on the weekend, and then get the wii's back in the mail on the following Monday. Turn around time depends on when you get it to me. With that said, we try to get to the consoles as soon as we get them.
Does the stealth option (and on/off function) all but assure we won't be booted off of Nintendo's online service?
From everything I've read and from general hacker opinions available online, most think that the stealth option is sufficient protection. I personally don't have an on\off wire soldered on my wii. However, you never know.
Do you do mods of the new "chopped pin" Wii's that are showing up recently?
We are willing to attack these new protections and have a couple ways of going about it. There is added risk to the console when working on these types of consoles as well as an added cost.
Can you do a chip install after I tried it myself, unsuccessfully?
Yes, however if there is any damage that makes our job more difficult such as lifted pads or excessive solder cleanup, these add to the risk of modification as well as the cost of our job.
Can you fix a busted drive fuse from a bad install?
Yes, we can bridge this fuse which often times gets the Wii back to working order. However every time you remove the fuse aspect from electronics, you open yourself to possible future issues with damaged components. There is a small additional charge for this service.
Do you offer discounts on multiple consoles?
Yes. Discounts are on a case by case basis. Email me for a quote.
Do you sell just the chips?
Yes, they are $6 shipped to anywhere in the US.

Do you sell the Tri-wing screwdrivers to take apart my Wii case.
We have some on order currently and will soon offer these for resale or as part of a chip order.
