I had something a long time ago, but don't remember what it was called. I thought it was called Gold or Golden something. It was freeware.
For example, I could start it up and it would begin recording, then I could start a game to record the start-up tune or game sounds. I could use the same software to play it back and edit the wav file.
Sound familiar to anyone?

MPTech,
This used to be the best one, I haven't used it for quite some time now, so I can't comment much on the newer releases. http://www.goldwave.com/

Well, that is exactly what I was looking for, THANKS!
Now I have to figure out how to get it to record while I'm playing a game. I can get it to record, but I get no sounds on playback, I can't figure out how to get it to record the sounds coming thru the speakers (input??) or the playback isn't working. don't know which.
Anyone know?

I haven't heard the name Goldwave in years! I always used CoolEditPro though.
One good freebie I've come to use in recent years is Audacity. Once it's up and running, you just select "What I hear" from the source menu, hit record, and play whatever you want.

You can even use plain old MS "Sound Recorder". Just make sure you have "Wave Out Mix" or "What I Hear" selected in the audio 'recording' options.
