Title: Analog Arcade Monitors
Post by: NukeBlast on May 19, 2007, 02:27:27 pm
Just to verify, am I correct to assume that analog arcade monitors do not save the screen geometry when you change resolution?  Will a digital monitor keep the geometry between resolutions?

Since switching between games in MAME often means various resolutions, I don't want to be stuck adjusting the screen for every new game I load.

Thanks for the help.

You are correct sir. Analog monitors store their current settings only, whereas a digital will store the settings for all modes and resolutions and bit depths.

Well that's partially correct.  It's only an issue though (in my experience anyway) with a multisync monitor when you go from a 15khz mode to a 25 or 31khz mode.  If you just have a standard CGA monitor (15khz only), you really only need to adjust the settings once for pretty much everything.  When I had my plain analog CGA monitor, I did not have to adjust the geometry at all when switching games once I got a good balanced setup for all games.
