this isnt me trying to defend myself at all on my punctuation or lack of as most would say,i was hoping the title would pull people in though.
its a for fun thing that people may enjoy about punctuation and im not trying to be a smartass posting it as its not something i thought up , i think ive worked it out but im not positive.
here goes
dogs dogs dogs dogs dogs
punctuate into a sentence as it stands (dont add any words that is) to give it meaning as a sentence. answers with as brief an explanation as possible please.
hope you dont already know it, let people try n work it out first if you do
-
dogs? dogs! dogs, dogs, dogs...
;D
-
no thats not really a sentence, in fact its three sentences, i would say.
the answer makes a proper sentence.
EDIT sorry dan, meant to pop a little smile in there
:)
-
i dont think that is correct , explain what the sentence youve made means to me.
-
no im sure its not quite it
-
Let's see, the options are:
Dogs - noun plural of dog
Dogs - verb, transitive, "to dog"
Dog's - possessive singular
Dogs' - plural possessive
Dog's - contraction, "Dog is"
So I would say something like:
Dogs, Dog's dogs dogs Dog's dogs.

thanks for that list its very concisive and will help in trying to solve this, i wouldnt have listed it so well.
there one more possibility you're missing , ill give everyone the chance to work that out before i give it.
theres one too many dogs in the sentence you gave its 5 not 6 words sorry.
in the answer indicate from 1 to 5 what the dogs mean if you get me as two types are spelt the same
eg
(non plural)(contraction) etc , its a bugger to work out what you exactly mean otherwise

sorry mate youve lost me, did you win what?
Look a little closer at my above post, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
I'm not a grammar nazi in the slightest, in fact I admit to having horrible grammar, I just found it funny that you asked a puncutation quiz question when you didn't even bother to use punctuation in your post. It kind of takes away all credibility when your the one grading everyone elses punctuation.

yep see what youre saying sorry, everyone expects it now though and there's a slight possibility of irony isnt there, but between me and you, think lazy.
just to re-iterate, i think i have the answer ,im not seeking to say no youre a dumbass to anyone, ok maybe just one, but he's done it for himself already in this thread. its meant to be a subjective discussion.
your prize is in the mail

I'm taking the technical way out of this one.
Dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs!
You said give it meaning. I have. I've given the statement a sort of frustrated tone. Maybe he/she uses the word dogs instead of ...a less than educated vocabulary. Or perhaps they just see a lot of dogs and it's surprising tone.
You said a sentence. You didn't say a complete sentence, so I'm giving you a sentence fragment.
;) :P

It's actually Ice-T from his brief scene in Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. I like old school rap (80's). It's the new stuff I can't stand... all genres actually - music is just so lazy nowadays.
I said your quote was ironic (via an out-of-context Simpsons line) because you misspelled "spelling".
But now I'll play the game:
"Dog's dogs dogs dog's dogs!"
Explanation: This guy name "Dog" (pronounced "dawg") has dogs (meaning feet) that are dogging on his dog's (the animal) dogs (their paws). He's literally stepping on his dogs feet and someone should alert the ASPCA.
I win! ;D

Ha, I think you'll find minor problems in everyones answer just so that you can give yourself first prize. I think you paid off the judge.
I think feet have been referred to as dogs since the 1950's, so it should be a valid use. Boy are my dogs tired.

as i have said i wont be awarding myself first prize as i'm not sure i have it correctly but i see your point that i could be overly picky, ive said dave has the second prize and i havent given myself that much credit . to be further picky i think he has the third dogs wrong after re-reading it, as i would say correctly in his sentence the third word should just be dog, not dogs ,to be correct. very similar to what mine comes out as actually. thats why i posted this, as ive said i think i can work out if a sentence is correct as should most i'm sure, but i cant work out how to exactly form the sentence myself.
i'm not trying to be clever and i think ive given credit where its due. im looking forward to someone showing me what the answer is that works fully. i thought maybe some might enjoy the game.

"Dogs" is a perfect cromulent verb.
From Websters:
c : to bother or pester persistently <dogged him about his grades>

i think Jebediah might be referring that as the second dogs is plural the third dogs is wrong
dave's feet dog his dog's feet
dave's foot dogs his dog's feet
EDIT lazy punctuation, sorry , that would make this more difficult
ya get me
like i said its subjective , ill post my answer soon to show im just as wrong in my attempt as i think yours is.
dave im happy for you to come back with the evidence , its discussion i'm looking for and what will lead to the fullest correct answer.

Hey. You leave dolphins out of this. They have nothing to do with any of it.
