Title: Can I help create a new forum?
Post by: hevnsnt on April 17, 2003, 10:58:33 am
No offense, I love this place... But the forums need a lot of help.  Can I help create/design/suggest a different forum to/with you guys?

There are some great freebies out there that have a lot better options than YaBB..

Let me know if you are interested

I'm always happy to see another suggestion -- setting a different forum up isn't a problem, we tried 3 or 4 before we picked this one I believe...  It's picking one with the look/feel/features we want that's the trick.  I liked wwwboard personally :)  Anyway, what's your suggestion?

I happen to like yapbbse, and I had never seen it prior to coming here.  It grew on me.

Is there a particular feature(s) that's missing, or are you just accustomed to the other board and stuff doesn't feel quite the same on this board (functionality/feel/navigation wise)

*Shrug*

Just wondering...

ps if you saw the old system (no offense intended to the old forum)... you'd see why this  one is light years ahead of what was here previously =P  not that excludes change to a different system -> just pointing out the evolution of the forum over here...

Well, (this is a personal thing, please dont take any offense)

The PM system could use a little work, and the search function I feel is very hard to use.

Both are valid points...  *Shrug*

I second the motion for phpBB, I currently am using phpBB2 for my site (although noone is using it :( )

Nevertheless, it is a great board system :)

I've never had a problem with either PMs or the search function.  The only thing I don't like about the PM screen, though, is you have the headers at the top, and them the messages below.  Makes a lot of clutter.  Make it so there's a 'delete' next to each message, or a checkbox with a delete button at the very bottom.

phpBB is a nice software.  There is nothing wrong with YaBB SE really though in my opinion.  I do have other softwares that I like better, but if it works, then it works.

Other then that, another suggestion I would put forth is InvisionBoard.  I used to really like it.  However, I've heard rumors of it becoming paid, and that's not cool.

I like YaBB, but I really do think that PHPbb is better...

This was brought up not too long ago...

I wish the PM emails had a link back to the original PM, so you could reply more quickly.
