ive been lookin for images.. im pretty sure the holes in this cocktail are for trackballs.
so.. my question... what game could this have cocktail cab have been used for? quad pong type game? warlords? all images ive seen of the cocktails for those 2 .. none of them look like this.
i plan on using this as a general mame cab (gonna need manipulation for sure) also lookin for some decent ideas to what i can do without making a whole new top for it..

An Atari Mini-Golf cocktail gone to hell?
-
it would be helpful to get a close-up of the plaques.....
-
It seems to have a Midway-style coin door
A search on MAWS only comes up with a few 4-player trackball games. None that are useful.
That really isn't surprising since I'd guess the age of this thing could be in the discrete logic era of games.
-
not that ive ever installed a trackball, but those holes look too deep for a trackball, at least the way ive seen them mounted round here.
-

Agreed... knowing what those red labels say might help if those are game play instructions.
Might be able to figure it out by how the game was played.

That's a weird one alright. If you look through the holes on the left/right you can see the top of the cabinet sides. Makes me think that top may not even belong to this cabinet.
Either way I don't see those holes fitting a trackball.
A large button maybe? could've been some type of poker game. :-\

Is that funky switch between the coin slots an original part of the coin door? I haven't seen a Midway door in the wild in years.
-
I'd guess those are spinner holes, and that it's a 4-player version of Pong or something similar.
-
i was told the holes actually housed joysticks.. ill have pics here in a little bit. i just picked it up

well after opening up the top.. right under the hood theres another metal tag. the name of the game was Minesweeper.

Love that Pro/Novice switch.:D
What the heck are you going to do with this cabinet?
-
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say a MINE SWEEPER game
Hawk

well. the overall cabinet design actually ends up being very good. most people will probably kick me when i say i am gonna make it a mame cab. lol
the 2 holes on the wide ends of the cocktail will end up being lit drink holders.
one hole most likely will end up as a trackball device
and the other hole will probably be a neon backlit logo or something.
i plan on making a control panel for atleast 1 side and attach it .
overall the only real modification im going to be doing to this is removing the blue plexiglass. because pacman doesnt quite look too great when hes green.
then again.. i could neonlight all 4 holes.. put a large plexiglass over the time in traditional cocktail fashion.
then again.. i can also mount the control panel on the wide side and have a 1 player cocktail but what fun is that? the positive is that ill be able to play wide screen games .. the negitive is that long screen games will be scrunched.. lol im so confused. lol
anyone have an idea what they would do with it design wise? i mean recreating the mine sweeper game would be nice and all but id prefer a multigame system.
-
Woah, I've never seen a Pro/Novice switch like that before. Pretty slick.
It's hard to say what to do with a cocktail like that. it doesn't really lend itself to design changes very well.
Mount trackballs in the four holes for four player games like Warlords, then mount under the top CP's on either side. If you really don't want to trash the original too much, make the CP as a kind of mobile piece.
It's just an idea, like I said, hard to say what to do with it.

within the modding of this cab. i wanna power leds via a USB. is this possible? i think that usb provids 5v correct? how many leds can i power via this? can anyone help me in a method i can use ?
-
I use 12v, but the principle is exactly the same. Just make sure it is the right voltage for you.
Don't use USB for just power. You can get 5v and 12v from a spare molex power connector in your PC.
red is 5v, yellow is 12v, and the two black ones are the grounds (for the active/coloured lead closest to them).
get a new molex connector, or a molex power splitter cable and chop that up. The rest of the wiring is very similar to what you'd do for buttons, so daisy chain the grounds. You can also daisy chain the active.
LEDs are very low power, so you should be pretty right for a few lit buttons, unless you want to make a Christmas tree out of your cab.
