Title: spinner problem - vertical instead of horizontal?
Post by: alandrogers on May 13, 2007, 09:03:35 pm
Ok, i can't find anywhere that sez it's supposed to go one way or the other, but mine is moving vertically (like, in windows, it moves the mouse pointer vertically instead of horizontally) and it seems to me it should be going on the other axis.

so, when i play arkanoid... the trackball works side to side, but the spinner does nothing.

question: is this something I need to change on the spinner, or do I need to re-config arkanoid to accept a vertical, which seems rather odd thing to do.

haven't tried tempest... i don't know what that does.

the spinner is a USB Tornado, I don't have any documentation on it.

thanks in advance for any help.

Go into control input for this game and set your spinner (whatever mouse number it is prob 2) to the proper orientation for by using the x axis for by setting it to x if it y and y if it is x and you should be ok.

I know that I can config each game to do that.. but it seems that it should be going the other axis by default.

i'm thinking this is more of a hardware problem ... even maybe window device setting -- but i looked and there's no options i can change in there for it. -- it's a "usb human interface device" -- not a "mouse" or something else.

oh wait ... maybe I can turn the plug over!  :applaud:

actually ... the only thing i found was this in the config file:
port type="P1_DIAL" mask="255" defvalue="0" value="0" keydelta="15" centerdelta="15" sensitivity="30" reverse="yes">

which i changed the reverse .. but all it did was make the trackball work backwards, not change the axis.

I'm running mamewah with mame32. Seems to be the most stable configuration for me right now.

I think there is an option on the Tornado Spinner. I dunnno how its done, but read somewhere long ago that you can change (jumper ?) it to go Horiz or Vertical. Go to the WWW page.

I had gone there already looking for information ... but then i went again just now .. and there's a blurb on the page that sez you can do that.

don't know how i missed that before. DUH.

I cant find anyplace that says what to do it though. So I sent them an email asking how to set the jumper. I've got prongs that I thought was some kind of plug, didn't realize it was a jumper block.

thanks thenasty.

just to close out this thread ... those 4 prongs are for attaching mouse buttons.

the jumper is actually up in there next to that on a 3-prong block.

Spoke with Chris at slikstik and he set me straight.
