Howdy-
I'm having trouble running Xevious on both MAME .113u1 & MAME32 .113u1.
The clone Battles works, but whenever I run any other of the Xevious games (Xevious (Namco), Super Xevious, Xevios, Xevious (Atari set 1), Xevious (Atari set 2)), MAME pops right back into the MAME32 interface or my MALA front end.
I know this has worked on older MAME versions for me.
Help, please!
Thanks,
-Jason

How old is your Rom for this game? The roms are constantly being changed. If you check out the Maws database you can see that changes have been made several times lately for this game.

Thanks--gosh, I guess I overlooked the fact that ROMs are changing. I thought they were just raw dumps of the code on the chips, dumped some time ago & didn't think they would ever change, especially on a game that has been working for quite a while. Strange.
Nevertheless, when I get to work tomorrow (yes, I'm setting up my MAME cab PC @ work...it helps for me to have IT guys handy...), I'll try to figure this out (and the Bio-Ship Paladin game). I recall MALA having some settable option to hide the command line window--I'll turn that off & see what the error msg looks like & then hunt down new ROMs if that is indeed the problem.
So, to re-iterate & ask a dumb question: if I upgrade my mame installation file (and leave the ROMs/snaps/marquees/samples/etc/etc alone) in the future, I could very well make some currently-working games stop working or work worse on my PC, right? Eek!
Thanks,

Yes. That is one reason Mame changes. Drivers updated, etc. Mame is an emulator, so it's a translation of the hardware.

SGT-
Thanks for pointing me to the MAWS database. Turns out I've got a .112 ROM set & am running .113u1 MAME. Argh.
1: Is there an easy way to see what ROMs have changed between .112 & .113u1 so I can get those?
2: And are there consequences of trying to use higher ROM values than my .exe? That is, Xevious seems to have changed again for .114u1. If I use a .114u1 Xevious ROM on my .113u1 MAME executable, am I asking for trouble?
Thanks for answering my stupid questions. :]

Howdy-
Well, I tried a "new" set of Xevious ROMs and get the following error when running the command line of mame:
f:\mame\mame.exe f:\mame\roms\xevious
54xx.bin NOT FOUND
ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run.
My ROM zip file has a bunch of files that start with xvi. I checked MAWS & it shows that I should have all those xvi files + 50xx.bin & 54xx.bin in my zip file...I do not...
Without asking for ROMs or anything shady, in the interest of asking what's probably a dumb & blunt question, let me ask if some files in zipped ROM archives can be expected to be found elsewhere--shouldn't it be in the zip file already...?
Thanks,
-Jason

Hi Jason,
I've been trying to get Bosconian to run on MAME .115 for a while. Bosconian failed to load because 50xx.bin and 54xx.bin were missing from the zip. While searching for these binaries I stumbled upon this thread and saw someone else was having the same problem. I wish ROM sites would keep up with the changing versions of ROMs.

Hope this helps!
