Post by: vintagegamer on May 12, 2007, 11:45:08 am
Here are some movies I can think of off-hand which show arcades or video games being played..  Please respond with any others you might know of!

Thanks HoopZ, I was sure my thread wasn't one that hadn't been brought up before  :D

I also like your Avatar- we were children of the Intellivision age, and I even went as far as to buy an INTV III at a local yard sale a few years ago to pass the gaming eulogy on to our kids..   :D

Perhaps one of HooPZ links mentions this (I didn't check) but....

The problem with the older threads is that they stopped getting posts.  There are tons of movies and TV shows missing from it now.

Such as the Nitro Groundshaker pinball in Tom Cruise's house in the new War of the Worlds...

Or the Pac-Man machine in the doctor's lounge on the early season of Scrubs....

Night of the Comet.

Curse you SL...  NOW I have to dig out my Night of the Comet VHS tape!!!  :D

I also missed the machine in War of the Worlds- I am really glad to hear about this one actually, since although I hate Tom Cruise it actually helps link his character in that film to me.  I too am a classic car nut like his character, and was laughing my @$$ off when he was rebuilding the Ford small block in his kitchen-  I've rebuilt carbs on my kitchen counter as my wife went looking for something sharp  :D  So seeing a car nut with an arcade game as well really puts me in place with the movie.  The only thing that could have topped it would be if the game was Space Invaders  :D

Just watched an episode featuring a Ms. Pac-Man machine.  While The Todd is playing it he says, "Oh, Ms. Pac-Man, I would sex that bow right off your head.  Eat those dots you naughty girl."

The movie is never being released on DVD so recently, I had a friend convert it to digital format so it's sitting on one my drives. It's one of my all time favorite cheesy 80s flicks.

Ditto. Someone gave me the film as a gift and is the only reason I ever bothered to watch it. For what it's worth, I refuse to pay any money for anything that has Tom Cruise in it. I'll openly admit that I would rather download rips of his films rather than see any money going towards his bank account.

I know the movie dirt bike kid had galaga in it.  I know because my brother had a sick obsession with that crappy movie when he was a kid.

Some I recall off the top of my head not on any list are:

Scanners II - The bad guy plays a gun game (maybe mechanized attack?) with his mind and then blows it up.

Footloose - While they are chatting in the local eatery, some movers are taking out the videogames because the church finds them "satanish". They were in the unfocused background, but I do believe one was Gorf.

The one I always thought was a riot was in the original Casino Royale, there's a shot of what I assume is supposed to be the casino arcade.  There's about 8 or 10 machines in the shot - only problem - they're ALL Centipede.

The wizard

Part of that movie was filmed just down the street from my house. I think there's three identifiable scenes.

I actually watched that for the first time the other day. Surprisingly, it wasn't as thoroughly bad as I thought it would be...well the blatant Nintendo references were, but the actual movie wasn't. ;D

Off the top of my head, there was a Double Dragon, about 1 million playchoice 10 cabinets, Rad Racer.

I probably haven't seen the movie since I was a kid, but it was great back then especially since it was around the time super mario 3 came out.

Ghost Rider has an old EM (maybe Dealer's Choice?  High Ace?) in Johnny Blaze's pad....

...and my company supplied the Fireball pinball used in Dazed and Confused (which the director still has in his gameroom - working now that I fixed a bad flipper).

The wizard

Saw that the other day. Not nearly as bad as I thought it'd be (what with Super Mario Bros: The Movie and all.), although it had way too many Nintendo games in it.

Some I remembered seeing/hearing:

Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Rad Racer
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Double Dragon("50,000 points?!")

And I think Metroid or Kid Icarus. Boy, this makes me want to play Castlevania... :)

Um... that's because it's a not-so-subtle-advertisement for Nintendo.

Think about it, what other reason is a fruit nut is going to find a way to weave the Power Glove into a plot?

In 1967? I think you're confusing it with Never Say Never Again.
