So, when you say "playing up" that's an Aussie term for "broken" - as in a Nintendo joystick?

 :o

Shame the guy didn't take a closer picture of the screen, or actually fire the thing up and look at it. Since the game supposedly works, I would think it would have an attract mode running. Or, is it playing up?

 ;)

'broken' and 'nintendo joystick' are non sequitur, surely?

Like Galaga, 70's, B&W (ish)?  I'll go with Space Invaders.  :dunno

Looking at that PCB, it's marked as a Z-80 board... I think SI used a real 8080, but I could be wrong... though that could make it an SI clone, which would be supported by the table type.

Hard to tell with those nonDomestic cabs.

EDIT:

Proxy won't let me see the page, but this link (http://www.mamedb.com/cpu/Z80?start=1220) seems to be to a list of games running a Z-80.

It's in a generically shaped Japanese coctail with BW graphics similar to Galaga (although probably more like SI). I think that limits it to about 100 clones of SI. When Space Invaders came out the market was COMPLETELY flooded with knock-offs. Some of those knock-offs had decent graphics and an interesting twist on the gameplay (like Namco's Galaxian). This pretty much continued until Pac-Man hit it big and then most of the clones became maze games. Unless someone recognizes that board specifically, I doubt anyone here can narrow it down much.

Have you asked the seller?

A friend of mine has a cabinet very much like that, and I believe crowquill is correct.
Definitely a Japanese SI clone.  My friend's cabinet, while gutted, says "space fever" on the control panel.  Those things are really funky looking, very retro.  Very weird monitor layout too-it was a 13" monitor, mounted vertical for playing, with a ton of dead space on either side of it.  I was thinking that mounting a big horizontal flat panel (because the cabinet is very shallow) would make a great machine...

Why are you asking for credit?  With MAME you don't need no stinking credits. :laugh2:

from the seller:

"hi danny,in attract mode it only tells you the points of each alien, and scrolling words "we are convoy charger" and, by goddard games .it doesnt acually tell the name of the game... ill try post some more photos, cheers"

hmmm. in galaxians it says " we are the galaxians"  and then has the points, the first being for convoy chargers. im wondering if maybe its a colour game with a b & w monitor? goddard games isnt in klov.

That style cabinet is pretty much what all japanese cocktails are in. I always thought the joysticks would be incredibly uncomfortable like they are. BTW, Space Fever was one of the very first Nintendo games. The cocktail cabinet is identical to Donkey Kong's. The DK one even got a US release. This one is a bit unusual in that the control panel isn't centered.

That's quite possible. Being a clone they also might have cut color out to save costs on hardware. I'd guess the game code has the color info since it looks like it's a Galaxian hack.
