I broke out the old consoles today and I guess somewhere along the line I got rid of, gave away, or sold some of my SEGA, NES, and SNES games. What I am wanting to know now is what games should I track down? What was the best of the best back in the day?

I don't know if it is considered a classic or not, but get Kung Fu Heroes for NES. It was my favorite game by far.

USA, but I've got a Japanese library of the games and English, if it wasn't confusing already for most people, its even more confusing for me. You know which games I mean though, lol.

What kind of game is that?

Action RPG like Illusion of Gaia. It has a very deep story which is why I love it so much. I like the main theme of the game which is the creation of the world. Saying any more will ruin the story. ;)
Excellent ending that leaves just enough to the imagination so not many questions are left unanswered which is common is some RPGs and anime (looking at you neon genesis evangelion; make up your mind how you want the freakin story to end... :angry: And you too Berserk! How can you end the anime when the story just gets really good!?! Animate the rest of the manga for cryin out loud! :angry:).

I have to say in the Genesis Category you have to get a few of the EA Sports NHL hockey games...too this day I believe they are the most enjoyable to play. Lots of big hits, fights, etc..lots of fun...
Nintendo-if your getting punchout you gotta go with the original Mike Tysons.. that has to be my favourite game of all time.
SNES-not sure if you had it on the list but Mario Kart was alot of fun, eventhough it was cartoon like..with mario, luigi etc...

Not too many Sega games mentioned. I'll throw out Ecco 2: The Tides of Time. Opening music is probably the best of any game I've ever seen.

A couple NES games I really liked besides the more obvious ones are Super Mario Bros. 2, Faxanadu and Wizards & Warriors. Double Dribble was ok too, spent countless hours with Tecmo Bowl and Super Tecmo Bowl, and NES Ice Hockey is hilarious. SNES I especially liked Star Fox, Super Metroid and the NHL94-98 games were fun.

After I visit the classic gaming store on Tuesday (I'm taking about a 3 hour drive to go out to it) I'll post pictures and a list of everything I got. I'll also compile everyones suggestions into one large list before I go and put it up in the original post.

Do any of you guys put these games on you arcade cabs? How do you handle save states and stuff like that?

Most ppl use them on the arcades...they work great.. I havent used save states in awhile with some emulators..but I use ZSNES yesterday and the saves worked awsome.. I beat super punchout thanks to the saves... :) eheheh and the game genies work great too. I am sure the other systems/emulators work just as well.

Absolutely, in fact I split time between NES/SNES and MAME pretty equally. On my Punch-Out cab I use Nestopia for NES games and since I have 3 admin buttons, I keep one as Exit (esc) to FE, but the other two are load savestate and save savestate. You could then use a trackball and mouse buttons to maneuver the save menus, but since I and others might make the mouse pointer a dot... I then have TAB and ENTER buttons set as shifted ipac buttons, plus up/down left/right. Up/down for navigating the list of games to load and left/right for changing the names of files. A button or two set as a number or letter is helpful also for labeling many savestates like mario mario1 mario11 etc.
Only thing is, when loading or saving in Nestopia the small menu tab will stay up across the top in fullscreen mode unless you do a right-click on the screen.
If you don't plan on having multiple savestates for each game, in Nestopia at least, I think the savestate button automatically comes up with the name of the rom, all you have to do then to save is hit a button configured to Save and then hit Enter. To load, you need to be able to have a load savestate button plus hit Tab, plus Up or Down arrow keys then Enter. Or trackball/mouse buttons.
The easiest thing to do is have a keyboard drawer or a wireless keyboard handy I guess, but I like to use the Ipac shift buttons and the trackball mouse buttons.
I haven't set up the same type of thing for ZSNES yet though, hopefully it will work in a similar way.
