Title: The Restore conversion Project - Williams Defender
Post by: CathalDublin on May 08, 2007, 06:38:39 pm
Well
After having this cabinet 3years now
I've finally started to really do some work on it, As the parents want it out of there shed now, so its coming over to my apartment in the next month
Picked up this williams defender for €20
When I got her, she was painted black all over, Maque removed and used as a control panel and converted to a Robocop jamma cabinet.
After spending hours with paint stripper/thinners I managed to get most the paint off and the original artwork is still in fairly good shape, the coin panel will have to be completely redone though :(
Was gonna try restore her fully, but to be honest I dont have the space or money to have this and a mame/jamma machine, So its a MAME/jamma project i'm afraid
I will try find an original defender board and control panel but I wont pay mad money for them.
There is a large monitor in it, not sure the size but its not the original defender one, thats for sure

I am gonna restore all the graphics, and I've already sourced an original Marque to replace the drilled one, the kick panel was completely rotten So I'm currently replacing that too.

Heres some pics of the progress

Is that pictured balltop a Sanwa? I used a red balltop Sanwa in a Stargate themed panel, and actually had to shim it down to lower it trying to capture the correct feel of the Williams 2 way.

Yes there them in the pic
I have em bottom mounted on the wooden control panel, but there too short, the must be something available to extend them, They look a hell of a lot better than the euro sticks

Does anyone know if the ultrastick replacement longer shaft will fit
in the link below

Dude, I had this dream that Eric Cartman was scared a Defender cabinet was chasing him.  :)

Whats up with the haze pictures? Anyhow, great work man. Keep it up. I love Defender, I just wish it loved me.

screenburn can be seen in this last pic
Flash actually makes screen burn look worse than it is
You can barely notice it during gameplay
only on grey and white menus
Will upgrade monitor when I find a better one its a 25"
the old one was a 26"
