Hey Guys,
I was over my buddy's house and he had an arcade legend cocktail. Obviously, it is too pricey and limited game selection. I got me thinking having a cocktail arcade can be cool. Head to Head game and beer on the table, blah blah blah. I have a couple question about building your own cocktail.
1. What is the best monitor to get? the one that comes with arcade legend is not a regular size monitor. Where can I get the same one?
2. One thing I like about cocktail when you are playing head to head game, the screen will split, so player will have their own screen. When you play games that 2 players don't play together. The screen will rolate 180" degree to the player. What do I need to do that? do i need a special hardware and software?
Please advise!
Jeff

1. Dunno what type monitor is in there.
2. Thats what COCTAIL is about. The games flip for the second player when its player's 2 turn. This can be enabled thru the COCKTAIL switch(TAB/CABINET) in the emulator like MAME. Keep in mind that some games don't support this, and some games you need to use F2 and look for setting about CAOCKTAIL settings ( mode A, B, C)etc..

Do you know anything about the split screen?
-
There was a unoffical version of MAME that I've seen before, forgot what it was called (SplitMAME) ?? :dunno
-
By split screen do you mean "cocktail" mode in Mame's new video options?
-
On the arcade legends cocktail I saw it had a 25" monitor IIRC. On horizontal games that were 2 player (such as Street Fighter II), it displays the screen twice on the monitor. Each half is rotated to face the player. I think this is what MAME is doing now too, but I haven't seen it in action..
Here's a crappy ASCII drawing (let's pretend Missile Command is 2p simultaneous):
---------------------------
I > I I <I
I + I I I
I > I I < I
I I I + I
I > I I <I
---------------------------
Player 1 Player 2
I think the term cocktail should be used lightly with that thing. It's gargantuan (and ugly). I still favor the Midway design. What can you expect..it's an Ultracade product.

so are you saying mame will have a function to split the screen for the horizontal games? How do I do that? Where can I find a such monitor? I went to wells gardner and I didn't see anything similar!

It is working in current versions of mame without a special build. In game hit
Tab
Video Options
Cocktail
You can also do it through the properties tab in MAME32
It is awesome for us Vertical cocktail guys!!!

Any idea when this happened? I am running .103 and that option isn't there...
I guess it's time to upgrade!
That sound really really cool...
BTW, what's this feature called? I googled various variants of "cocktail mame mode" and had no luck.

I think the feature was officially introduced in .106 or whenever MAME redid their new video stuff. I'm not sure exactly what it is called. I think it is just cocktail mode. It's pretty obvious when you get into MAME's "video options" in the tab menu within the game. I am a huge fan!!
