Title: KTM-26 Kortek no picture
Post by: Jake on May 04, 2007, 11:29:11 am
I've gotten my cab put back together.  My arcadeVGA installed and working fine on my computer monitor.  I go to hook it up to my arcade monitor and nothing happens.  Increased the screen voltage on the flyback and got some kind of picture but it's just green bars and static.  I tried tweaking the H and V potentiometers but didn't seem to affect anything.   I'm not sure if this just needs tweaking or the signal just isn't getting through.  Any thoughts?

I hate randomly flipping switches but it seemed to do the trick this time.   Anyway, after about 4 hours of turn a knob, look, turn a knob, look.....I have a fairly decent picture.  Only problem now is the horizontal edges extend to far and I can't find a knob that adjusts it on the board.  There's an H-Sub Posi that slides the screen from one side to the other but there just doesn't seem to be one to squish the picture.  I'll keep turning, looking, turning, looking...... :banghead:

can't you resize in properties,if not there is a horizontal size coil on the monitor chassis which will require a special plastic hex trimming tool to adjust it

Alright, I see the H-Width copper coil.  Does that special tool have a name?    I've read about people having to adjust the coil but they only refer to the tool as "that plastic hex tool"

monitor trimming tool, hexagonal head-you can buy trimming tools sets with all the different sizes-don't use an allen key or any other metal tools or you will crack the ferrite core of the coil
some kortek chassis also have link positions for width size

To make absolutely sure we're talking about the same thing.  Here's a picture of what I'm looking at.

Hmm, there's not a hex shape inside the coil.  It's simply a hole, big enough to put my pinky finger through.

have you looked using a flashlight just in case the ferrite core has been fully adjusted inwards?

Nope, no hex as far as I can tell.

it looks like the ferrite core is missing, more so it actually looks like the width coil is broken.you may be wise to buy a new width coil.
if you look at apollo's post (id this monitor)you will see his width coil with the ferrite core present-to give you some idea of what it should look like

I'm looking into either getting a new core or a whole new coil.  I wish I had known about this before I sent it off to be cap'd.

So now I have a new problem.  My monitor is tuned fairly decent now besides the horizontal problems.  Last night I noticed a color difference when I changed my desktop to matte black.  I'm thinking the monitor is just old but was curious to what some of you might think this is.

if you had this effect with a standard cga set up i would say the power supply caps are shot, otherwise it could be some kind of overdrive on the colours or contrast, the cap kit you purchased had every electrolitic on the chassis or just a few?
