Just wondering what other people put in the gameroom besides games. I don't have a gameroom yet, but I will when I move to Phoenix in like a month. I picked up a traffic light (you know, with the red, yellow, and green lights) at a yard sale that I'm gonna clean up and rewire. I also have these odd fighting monk figurines in different poses that will be in the gameroom as well.
What do you have? :pics

I picked up a few classic board games that I am putting in shadow boxes - Monopoly, Candyland, and also a poker layout. I also have a collection of marquees I will make a collage out of. The pic below is just an example. I plan to cut the board in half diagonally and make a smaller version.
Lastly, I will be putting in one of these pay phones (http://cgi.ebay.com/Genuine-pay-phone-coin-phone-payphone-for-home-use_W0QQitemZ280109658065QQihZ018QQcategoryZ985QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). ;D What can I say, I enjoy the act of coin operation more than the games themselves.

The board game idea is pretty cool! I never would have thought of that... and that pay phone is sweet!

Heck yeah it is. After the phone companies (I believe Bell South started it) started to pull them out of service, they got the idea to make them work straight off of a line w/o coins, refurbish them, sell them and donate the profits to charity.
-
I am impressed Shardian, great ideas :applaud:
-
Ahh, here is the pic of exactly what I am making:
The whole board would be overkill, and IMO kills the "decorative/conversation piece appeal of the box.

That's cool! Where did you get the payphone?

I don't have one yet. That pic is from an ebay listing.

Hey.... my thread got moved! :D
So what else do people have in their gamerooms?

I'm impressed the gameboards are a great idea

I dont have a game room but I do have a few printed off flyers and a few posters around my cabinets. I have looked into getting a neon pacman or something though.
-
I've got a shelf full of old handhelds. They can be found dirt cheap and are usually more interesting to look at than play.
-
geomartin, let's see 'em!
I've got 2 framed pictures of "Dogs Playing Poker" (they're so corny they're funny)
And a nice poker table, chairs, and poker light over the table.
A foosball table.
A tall bartable & bar chairs (great for sitting at the cab) with a Genis lighted bar sign.
And a bar sign that says Game Room.
I'm still considering making a lighted wood box with 3 Arcade Marques mounted in it. (next project after I finish my Jukebox)
-
Back before the marriage caused a serious decline in arcade room quality...
I had a few gum ball machines a 7-11 style candy rack, a "Squirt" soda bar-style back-lit clock, a framed buckner & garcia "Pacman Fever" album. The next purchase was to be a soda (or whatever) bottle machine.
-
Continuing with the board game theme...
My wife saw a show on Home & Garden TV where they took old board games, and put the board between two pieces of plexi as wall art. You then take all the pieces of the games and store them in zip loc bags or somesuch. I think that's a great idea if you have kids so that you can just take the board off the wall to play the games and it makes for some nifty wall art! Here's the tiny picture of the room from the hgtv.com website...

I bought a variety of board games at Goodwill for $1 each, so they are quite expendable for the shadow boxes.
-
Where are you picking up the shadowbox cases at
dm
-
Michael's arts and crafts store. They have ones that are really nice in black or cherry that are normally $40, but with their 40-50% off coupon they offer almost every week, they are very affordable.

cool thanks

I have a space-themed game room. It has a couple of framed paintings of rocket ships, a Space Duel marquee lit by a custom lightbox, and those Space Invaders wall stickers from Blik (http://www.whatisblik.com) on the walls. There's also a shelf with a bunch of Star Wars, Voltron, and other toys on it. On the ceiling, it has a light fixture that looks like the moon, complete with little hand stenciled space men and such. The two round air conditioning duct covers have been decorated to look like flying saucers. Finally, there are little lights that kind of look like runway lights around the floor of the room.
It's still a work in progress, but it's coming together well.

Ah. That was the one I saw first and a favorite for a while. They had it at a local toy store, but it was EXPENSIVE. I got the ship Voltron for my next birthday or something, but, as with all my but my Robotech toys, it's gone.
-
I don't have this done yet but i would mirror all the walls in the room that i would keep my arcade machines in.
As long as you have good responsible adults in there it will look great and you would not have to worry about glass breaking at any time.

Ship or Lion Voltron?
Ship is better.

Ship is better.
Maybe, but people who aren't avid Voltron watchers immediately recognize the Lion one as Voltron. Put the ship one out there and you'll get plenty of comments about your Transformer.

Not if you have an air hockey table! :)

That's not true at all. Nearly nobody is gonna know ship voltron (actually the original voltron I beleive) from tv because, well it didn't air anywhere but japan. On the other hand for anyone who grew up playing with the toys, they started selling ship voltron almost immediately after lion voltron in the stores. They both pale in comparison to a gestault transformer though. Voltrons aren't fun to play with unless they are combined because, well the toys are glorified dolls, they don't do anything. Devistator on the other hand splits to cool toys like back-hoes and scoops. ;)
With that being said, voltron, unlike the transformers never exactly went main-stream over here, so odds are the average person, unless they happened to have to toys or watch the show, isn't going to know who voltron is regardless of the model.

They showed the vehicle Voltron on TV (at least in Los Angeles), when I was in grade school in the early 80's. Most of the kids I knew disliked it because there were too many characters. Lion Voltron and Tranzor Z were the classics.
I'd like to get some of the giant Shogun Warriors toys.
-
And who can forget the weird robot Voltron.

Currently my game room is sharing space with the home theater (Star Wars theme) and so the arcades are in with Movie reels mounted on the walls and movie posters and some FX Light sabers mounted. I might add some reproduction blasters to the Star Wars area. There is a custome acrylic Space Invader that a friend made above the arcades. If I can convince him to make more acrylic items I'd finish the wall behind the arcades with another invadie and maybe add maybe have Pinewood Princess made me some additional items.
Here are some pics of the room pre mounting the acrylic invadie http://www.perfectidiot.com/Theater (http://www.perfectidiot.com/Theater)
I'm currently looking for some dogs playing poker art and some other stuff for near the pool table.

That's comming together nicely (and having the candy vendors near the candy cabs is either an intentional or unintentional joke, but cool anyway) - want to move the Phoenix meet up over to your pad? ;)

Framed side art from games. Frequently comes up on eBay and usually goes cheap (depending on the game obviously). My Street Fighter Alpha 2 side art is the pride of my game art collection. Framed flyers can be cool too.
I prefer ship Volton too. The cartoon aired, but wasn't as popular as the lion Voltron. I think they only showed the Lions in re-runs.

Our gameroom/family room has a neat old Hamm's beer sign. This is our only decoration. :'(
-
That's a cool sign, though. I like it!

What I said was absolutely true. People who aren't avid watchers of the show will recognize the lions. I didn't say "people who had never seen the show" or anything like that. There have been plenty of people at my house who didn't watch the show, but recognize the lions from flipping though the channels as a kid.
As an aside, I used to have Devastator, but eBayed it a few years back. My parents were moving and dropped off boxes of my old toys at my house, including tons of Transformers and GI Joes. I'm not real big on the whole action figure collecting thing, so I only kept a handful of each type around to put in the game room and sold the rest.
