Hey Guys,
I'm looking into building a second cab with a rotatable screen. LCD makes the most sense for this project. I had a couple of question:
1. What's the largest 4x3 LCD computer monitor?
2. Which LCD monitor has the widest viewing angle latitude?
Any info is truly appreciated.

biggest 4:3 i've seen is 21"

I'm not very familiar with monitors but I found a site (http://www.smartratings.com/computers/monitors (http://www.smartratings.com/computers/monitors)) where there is a wide array of list of monitors. Each has all its reviews, user and expert alike, aggregated to make for an easy comparison with other brands. Hope it helps.

So with this new cabinet, are you planning to run native resolutions and use Mame, or run something like XGA??
This is very important as I have been testing LCD's for month's and have been working with many suppliers.
Some of these claim to be able to do Standard and Mid-res, but I guess that is why we are still looking for the right LCD and supplier. No one has yet lived up to those claims.
We are negotiating with these guys to have them show us how to program the inverter, but so far have not got any agreement.
By the way if anyone knows of a website that might explain the programming process please post it.
I have suppliers that claim upto 50 inch LCD's mostly 16X9 some claim 32" 4:3.
Hopefully we will soon get through the negotiations and evaluations and will be able to help more.

Rick, as far as I know, no LCD will support standard MAME/arcade resolutions natively. They can of course interpret the signal and then upscale it, but they won't display it natively. I think the manufacturers claiming this are either confused or outright lying.
And KillBill, you won't find any 4:3 LCD's beyond 21", at least for a sane price. If you want larger than that, you'll have to go Widescreen. You could always get a 27" widescreen and mount it vertically(permanently). I'm sure there's a way to run the monitor in vertical mode and still display 4:3 content letterboxed at the correct ratio. And then think how vertical games will look, spread over the full 27" screen. A 27" inch widescreen is still about 20" high, so in vertical mode that would be virtually the same as a 21" 4:3 screen.

Glad to see a monitor supplier talkin on the forums!!
I've a simple requirement for an LCD, needs to be viewable when mounted horizontally, in a table. ALL the LCD's i've found in the shops don't work well, even the nice Dell 24" ones go 'funny' when viewed around 30 degrees from horisontal which is a normal position for a cocktail cab
Do you have anything?, or have you seen anything?

It's called deflection angle. CRTs are very broad. LCDs are getting better, at least some of the widescreen TVs I've seen, but then again that was in the store. That and the back (or side) lighting are big issues. For games where the screen is nearly or completely saturated, they're fine. For golden age games they blow.

been looking at viewing angles on LCD's, there's a lot of technologies out there, but generally, the S-IPS types give the widest angles, the old TN types invert at extreme angles

Have you considered LCDs designed as replacements for CRTs in things like pub quiz machines/jukeboxes? These come uncased already, have wide viewing angles since they're designed for game machines, and will support 15kHz (I'm not sure if they're just doing some weird scan conversion here). Seem to only go up to about 19" though.
