Title: Hantarex MTC 9000 powers up intermittently?
Post by: Popcorrin on April 27, 2007, 05:46:21 pm
I have an MTC 9000 that won't come on half the time.  To get it to come on I have to cycle the power on and off multiple times and then it will finally come on and stay on.

If I shut it off and turn it on shortly afterwards I don't experience this problem.
It's only after it has sat off for awhile that it does this.

Two areas to do:

bad solder joints on main board

bad electrolytic capacitors on main board

Hi Ken,

After messing with it some more, I found out if I turn it on and leave it on for a 30 seconds or so and then turn it off and back on that the monitor comes on without fail.  Leads me to believe that it has something to do with bad capacitors activating the high voltage shutdown circuit.

The problem I have is that I would not know which ones to replace.  Would they be included in a cap kit, or would the ones in the cap kit be mainly for geometry issues and not help with power supply issues?

Thanks in advance.

Cap kits usually handle both, but it still may not address the issue if a cap that's not in the kit is the culprit.

In general, the capkits for this model always include the likely culprits. Kit # 802 from Zanen Electronics should do it. Bob Roberts also sells a kit for this model.
