Title: Need your opinion
Post by: urbecrisch on April 27, 2007, 07:53:06 am
I'm just curious what Mame version people are running nowadays.  I have v.106 with working ROMS and I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to the newest build (.114u1) or something higher than v.106.  I know some people don't like the newer builds so they stick with older versions.  I'm looking for something that will play smoothly (not buggy) and will still support all the extras like high score, controls, history, etc.

I noticed some people use advancemame with their arcade monitor.  I'm in the process of Maming a CAB with an arcade monitor.  Should I use advancemame?  Does it make a difference?  I noticed there are no more updates so does that mean it's a dead project?

Any help will be appreciated.  Cheers!

The bezel (really all of the) artwork was greatly improved with 0.107 and later (speed and clarity).  You do have to compile your own build to enable hi-score support, though.

So the highscore.dat file works well with 0.107?

IMS - hiscore.dat and new artwork work with 0.107.  hiscore.dat support was removed with 0.107u1, but 0.107 was pretty buggy due to the amount of changes.

My recommendation is to get a later version and compile your own with hiscore.dat support as mentioned in the software forum.

I am running 0.114 on an XP 2800+ currently.

Can you direct me to the thread explaining how I do this?  Not quite sure what you mean.  Sorry  :dunno

Do a search at Mameworld on compiling. Could even google it - compiling, or compiling Mame. Or you could use Mame32FX.

Source modifications are at - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64298.0 (You will need the one that matches the mame version you are using.  Read entire thread and it should make sense.)

Compiling info is here: http://www.mameworld.net/mrdo/compile.html

I'm using v.106 but I didn't see the file in the thread.  The furthest back I saw was v.107u2.  Any place you know where I can get v.106 hiscore diff?

All you need is hiscore.dat to work with .106.

Ahh, thanks hoopz.  So if you're using any version after v.106 you need to compile highscore diff?

Excluding the u releases, yes.   .106u1 etc should still have hiscore.dat support.  When you get to .107 is the change.
