I saw this posted on SciFi.com and haven't seen it elsewhere... hope it's not a double-post.

That is one ugly bartop.
-
They should hire Knievel... (and hire me to burn their current cabinets).
-
I would expect a commercial product to at least flush-mount the joysticks and trackball plate.
-
What are all the buttons for on the front of the black Katana? Jukebox software?
Also, the Donkey Kong-themed Katana bartop looks a helluva lot like the one here at BYOAC. Looks a bit like they stole the picture.
-
Its also looks exactly like the one in The mame room designs example gallery lol
-
... agree with all of you... BUT...
did you also see that price????

A company that requires you to sign up for an account just to learn their frackin' prices is not worth your time.

In other words, no we didn't see the price. Actually, the site doesn't work for me hardly at all (the images won't enlarge in Fx, and the thumbnails won't display in IE).
The shape could maybe work with a few adjustments. That front panel just makes the entire thing too busy though.

That Donkey Kong looks like the one Mamemaster built, but that was a mameroom Ultimate bartop kit (http://www.mameroom.com/product_UltimateBartop.asp) ($199). Maybe they licensed that kit?

SciFi review (http://blog.scifi.com/tech/archives/2007/04/26/dreamauthentics.html). It costs $2500.

My thoughts exactly. $2500 for the upright I could see, but not for a bartop. That's insane. For that you could buy an Ultracade upright. ;D
Did anybody else notice the weird cutouts in the SIDE of the unit reviewed @ Sci-fi.com? What would you do with all the buttons on the front? I do have to admit that I wonder how all of those are interfaced.
-
also the CP overlays they are selling are exactly the same as the ones a mame marquees, the lightning and the 'multi-marquee' designs anyway. the others all look familiar too. Whats the deal with copyright on those things?

Gigantic profit margin. No thank you.

Yeah, seeing how you can get that DK kit for $200. Going from there to $2500 looks like a bit of a stretch.
BTW the $2500 is the base price so it might go higher if you want it altered.
-
I know... I was completely shocked that SciFi.com would promote this, but then again, they're a commerce site now :)
I only looked into it because I thought it might be nice for a niece and nephew of mine (3 and 5, respectively) when they come to visit... then I saw that price!!
I predict slow sales in 2007.

Lemme guess, the difference is for the licensing costs for the games.

I kinda like the design btw. Although I like the one from Kator Legaz (http://www.katorlegaz.com/arcade_cabinets/bartops/06_lcd_marquee_enclosed/index.php) better.
