Title: How to touch-up a plexi marquee ?
Post by: Level42 on April 25, 2007, 04:57:42 pm
How did some of you guys touch-up /restore original marquees (plexi) ?

My Galaxian has very tiny holes, mostly in the black part (no I don't mean the "stars".
I could simply touch them with a permanent marker but I'm a bit scared about the agressive solvents harming the paint/ink even further.

Be attentive and listen, compliment the marquee's dimensions or colour depth. Perhaps take the marquee for dinner and a few drinks? Don't be desperate and don't seem needy. Get all that right and you're in...

Level 42--I had the same issue with my Galaxian marquee.  I just used black latex paint (two coats) on the areas where they were spotted.  I applied it from the backside of course.  Looks great from the front.  From the back of the marquee, you can tell it's been painted because it's not white anymore.  This wouldn't work for the other colors of course, because they'd need to be somewhat transparent, but for the black, it worked great.

I use the pinball backglass method described at http://marvin3m.com/restore/index1.htm#bg (http://marvin3m.com/restore/index1.htm#bg)

Basically, clean carefully, coat with Krylon Triple Thick, and then user cheap watercolor paints to touch up.  Since they are watercolors, you can easily wipe them off if the color does not match and try another.
