This kids parents need to reign this girl in, even if she did win $25000.
8000 text messages a month???
-
Yes, posting thousands of messages is badbadbad.
:-[

At least she isn't old enough to buy a car with her prize money to drive while texting.
Also, the contest should have made all contestants use a phone with a 10-key pad, none of this mini keyboard stuff.
-
8000 a month is ~260/day. Yeesh. I wonder if she would be able to function without a phone at this point.

244 byo posts to go and you will catch up to her in qty., then just make them from your cell phone and you will be as talented. ;D

A local guy here in Utah is the reigning world 10-key texting champion. They changed the rules this year to allow the qwerty board that is on some of the phones. They need to have 2 divisions.

Imagine the whoppin' she'd administer in a round of Mortal Kombat with a little practice!
-
In a follow-up story, her year's texting phone bill was $24,994.34. Thanks to her prize, she can pay the bill and still have enough for a meal at McDonald's!
No Chad, I made this up

So, erm, aside from this contest, this child spends $20k+ on her cell bill?

I seem to remember reading in one of the articles that she has a $39 plan with unlimited texts. Phone company must be regretting that one.
EDIT: Found the article http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21603842-13762,00.html it's actually US$10 a month for unlimited text.

The qwerty pads would slow down, not speed up a fast texter. Predictive text allows her to type all the same words using a fraction of the keys. I recently upgraded my Windows SmartPhone with full qwerty keypad (Samsung i730) to a Blackberry Pearl that is actually set up in a qwerty layout, but has two letters per key. I can already, after only having the phone for a few days, type considerably faster on the Blackberry.
