Title: Road Riot vs. Star Wars Yoke...
Post by: Level42 on April 22, 2007, 07:03:50 pm
Recently saw a Road Riot for sale that was equipped with a Star Wars Yoke. I checked the pictures on KLOV, but that cab looks to have a different "steering wheel".

I assumed that the Star Wars yoke can be "twisted" up and down (as well as turn left and right of course) for the up-down movement in Star Wars. However, this was fixed, so it basicaly just was a Steering wheel with 2 fire trigger buttons.
Is this something special ?

At the same place they had 3 Playmaster machines, nothing special about them, but they all had 2 original Wico Leaf sticks in them......whish they would sell them seperatly.....

This place is Sooooooooo overpriced though.....

Also an Atari Xybots. I like that cabinet...

The "yoke" on Road Riot doesn't have the up/down twist that you're referring to, its just steering left/right.  Does look similar, though...

There is a way to modify it however to include both and X and Y axis movement. I believe I ran across a website that documented it once...

The SW yoke can be modded to include only one axis just by not connecting one of them to anything.  I've seen a lot of them on stuff like Spy Hunter (I even have one with a Weapon Van button hacked into it by an op)

That one looks like the "real" Road Riot steering wheel.

The one I saw was a real Star Wars yoke, but I couldn't "twist" the handles, as I thought they should do on a Star Wars cab

Sounds more like a Road Blasters controller, then.  Shaped (mostly) like a SW yoke, same handles as a SW yoke, but the handles are attached to a welded steel tube that absolutely does not turn.

Stuff like this really tempts me to figure out plastic casting... I mean who wouldn't kill for controllers like this with illuminated handles.

Why not?? With the repros from RAM controls, that would be ---smurfing--- sweet.

Eh, not in something like a Star Wars.  I'd want the light levels controlled by game sounds.
