Hi all
Can someone who has purchased MikeDeuce's LED button discs, please do a favour to the building community and measure the thickness of these discs.
It's to allow a potential new source of these button discs to be made.
The thread with the discs is:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=51813.0
I've estimated the disc thickness is 1mm, but would be good if we can get a confirmation.
Thanks guys.

1/8" nominal

I didn't realize there was a need.
I'll start looking into it.

I have the sticker cutting materials and equipment. I could probably try whipping up a batch myself to see how they turn out.

1/8"?? I thought they're thin sheets of vinyl-like material? Or am I thinking of somethng else entirely?

I believe that you are thinking about Mike's vinyl stickers. These go inside the button and look like a sticker placed on a 1/8" piece of clear plastic. There was also an optional white coating on the back side of the disk. It really is bad that Mike has been MIA for several months. His sticker sheets were real cheap and these disks were a nice, though not as affordable, option.

The vinyl that is on them is only ~2.5 mil. The substrate is 1/8" ( the disk). I just got 50 blanks from a source in NM. to try and make my own. I have my own 24" cutter.

That didn't take long ;D

I made the discs out of polycarbonate. They just fit inside the plunger.

And here's the insert inside of a blue NovaGem. The legend is made using the same outdoor adhesive vinyl and pigmented inks as I use with the NovaGemCDR pushbuttons.
I'll start working on some designs and either add them to the NovaGem options list or as a separate item (or both.)

RandyT, you're going to have to slow down a bit with the new ideas here... the list of stuff I want to order from you is long enough already...

:notworthy: Randy you are da MAN! Defiantly offer them both ways. ;D Now could you do some vinyl stickers for the standard buttons?

Those look good Randy.
I'm not trying to hijack the thread with this, but the reason Anubis_au asked the question was because he had asked if I could make the discs. I didn't know the size they needed to be, hence this thread. If there is someone else making them he can get the inserts from them.
As for vinyl stickers, I have been making sets and selling them in the B/S/T forum. If you are interested check out that thread. I have been making assorted button labels as well as colored "donuts" to surround buttons, and arrows for joysticks. It's all custom, so you can get whatever you need.
Thanks

Personally, I just took some thin packaging plastic, cut it into a circle, and stuck the stickers on it. Works great. It's a good solution for those that already have the stickers.

I figure I can't be only one wanting these button discs and lamenting MikeDeuce's MIA status recently. Its great that there are so many that can step up and support the building community with these sorts of things.
If people are prepared to offer these discs then I'll be following with great interest and will get some soon. I'm currently roping a mate into doing a cab alongside me :P

I didn't realise this was a possibility... that is to say, I thought, the discs being designed to fit inside the button, that vinyl decals stickers might be too big to fit onto a disc (being that they designed to go on the top of the button).
I guess its a question for Pongo: would your standard vinyl stickers fit on a 5/8" disc to go inside a button?
-
I think that as they are now (the size I have been making them) they are a little bit too large for an inside use. I am cutting each order as it comes in though, so everything is custom. If you need them just a bit smaller, then I can simply cut them in a slightly smaller size.
As I stated in my PM to you, the biggest problem I have is that I don't have any of the Happ buttons, and I would want to check the size myself before sending out a set. Not a big deal, just something I need to get done.
On the other hand, if RandyT has got something he can offer for these, you may as well just go through him.

Question: is the NovaGem buttons on offer thru GGG a Happ translucent (with the LED, resistor etc) or is it a different manufacturer of button altogether?
99.99% certain, but I couldn't find anywhere where it explicitly states they are Happs.

Happ distributes them, but they are in fact produced by Industrias Lorenzo. ALL of this style of translucent colored buttons you see being sold are IL. We modify them with very special LEDs that have about 5x the output of a standard superbright LED, and attach the proper resistors and wiring for 5v operation.
Nobody has asked this, but I'll bring it up in case there are any misconceptions. The "ButtonBlaster" LEDs at the GGG site are not the same as the lights used in the NovaGems. Superbright LEDs (or ButtonBlasters) are bright, but don't approach the output of the light source in the NovaGems.

Could you offer the Nova LED separately as well? I bet that they would be a better option in lighting up the standard buttons.

Hi RandyT,
How are you coming along with the disc inserts? Are you still going to be offering these with (and/ or without) the Novagems? I'm still interested in acquiring some when you are ready for production.
-
Soryy for the delay.
Yes, I have just been pressed for time lately. I promise to get a selection up in the next couple of days. Making an order page with all of the designs is going to be a pain :P

That was fun.... :dizzy:
Ok, I call them a PGI™ (Pushbutton Graphic Insert) and they are now up at the store (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=71&products_id=302). 27 design options to start, and I'll add more as time permits.
Let me know if there are any urgent design additions.

RandyT, those are awesome.
Are we allowed to make suggestions for buttons / request custom inserts? Just asking...

Sure. No promises, but happy to listen and I will see what I can do.
