Title: Using an earlier version of Mame
Post by: bigredsk10 on April 17, 2007, 05:02:05 pm
I am relatively new to Mame but I recently downloaded and set up Mame with Mala as my front end. I used the most recent version of Mame, 0.114, because I did not know any reason not to.

My computer is 1.79 ghz and I have had some slow down with a number of games, such as NBA Jam.  I have a couple of questions.

Would using an earlier version of Mame fix the slow down problems? If so how far back would you recommend I use?

If I used an earlier version of Mame would I have to have an all new set of roms?

Thanks for your help!

.84 is good especially for the spec.

If Golden Tee Golf is important to you, its in version .99. That version also fixed a speed issue with Robotron and also still supports the old hiscore.dat file (high score saves) so it's the version I use.

MAME started really going downhill fast speedwise in the .1xx versions.

That helps a lot, most speed problems I was having were fixed. I went with .84 cause I built my arcade machine as cheap as I could and didnt include a trackball.

Thanks a lot!
