Does the Daphne emulator work ok in WIN 98 SE? I saw a message that was saying that it will run jerky, so I'm just trying to determine if I should upgrade my system to WIN XP Pro? I don't want to upgrade to XP unless I have to? I'm afraid of compatibility issue's with my current mame setup.
Thanks!

It will work in win98... but you'll need a reasonably fast system and decent vid card. It's just that it'll run better in w2k/xp system at the same clock speed/setup.
*shrug*... the only way to know for sure is to try it and see if your setup responds well to LD games =)

I'm using a 2 ghz Celeron system, I think the onboard video is pretty good, so I'll just give it a go!
Thanks!

Another quick question, has anyone made a Daphne .app for ArcadeOS?

Daphne runs fine on my Athlon XP 2000+ on Windows 98SE.

It runs fine... but not as good as XP.
I went from 98 -> XP on the same hardware and it seemed to run much smoother on XP. But not enough difference for me to choose XP over 98..

Unless you're talking about some specific reason for running 98 like you want to run analog+ you're crazy. XP is far and away Microsoft's best OS attempt yet. There's not even a debate.

Well, I have 98, and it runs well enough for a cabinet, so why spend the money to upgrade to XP when all you're running is emulators?
I wish DAPHNE used Allegro instead of SDL... then it would run in DOS, which is more stable than any other Microsoft OS...

Because Xp is the most robust operating system windows ever made. It's lightyears ahead of 9x. You don't HAVE to run it, but all of your helper apps (front ends, media players, ect) will get better performance in xp. That is assuming you meet and exceed the minimum sys req. :)
