Title: MaLa plays portrait games sideways... pls help!
Post by: Anubis_au on April 16, 2007, 12:51:03 am
Hi all

I don't know what I could have done wrong; MaLa seems to have this problem from the first time I ran it. If I try to run a vertical game (1942, pacman etc) it displays it rotated on my monitor so it displays sideways...

Can someone help me locate whichever setting is wrong.

Thanks.

Hello.  Does it work correctly if you run the game without MaLa involved?  In other words, what happens if you type mame pacman?

Sorry, I actually tested that but forgot to write my findings.

The vertical games still displayed rotated if i ran them from the command line... its weird, because the windows version of advmame plays the games correctly...

But, in any case, I can say that the graphics card on this pc does weird things with MAME. For the benefit of the wider community, I'm posting a pic of the system settings.

This pc is actually my work pc and I was only using it to run MaLa to get an understanind of its interface and ability to be customised (which I ended up doing on my home pc). So, though MAME is weird on this pc, its no biggie.

But if anyone happens to know why and a workaround, I'd be interested...

Hi there.

Same thing is happenning to my work pc (Dell optiplex), which has the video card included in the mobo.  It was driving me mad, until I found the solution.

It seems that the rotate option is enabled, therefore if the game is supposed to be vertical it automatically does the rotation, just as if the rol switch in mame was enabled.

There is an option in the Display Properties (I hope your menu options are similar to mine):
---> Settings tab
---> Advanced button
---> Intel graphics Media Accelerator Driver tab
---> Graphics Properties button
---> Rotation tab

Disable (uncheck) the Enable Rotation option, and problem solved.

Hope this works for you too.

Cheers, :cheers:
