Title: Laptop Keyboard and key problems.

Not really sure where I should post this one...
I have a Dell C800. The "N" key started not working. Later, more keys in the same area started not working too. I have read as much as I can on the internet. Most folks say do not bother fixing it, just buy another one. I am a tweaker and this is just against my nature. I wanna fix the dagum thing. Anyway I have the keyboard disconnected and am looking at it. Even up close, I am not seeing how the connection is being made. There are 2 sets of stands that make an X. When the button is pushed it squishes the X. I am assuming that the point of contact is below that...

Odd opportunity...

So I knew I was going to be taking the thing apart anyway. I was ok with this. Last week, my wife started to drop the laptop. She caught it in mid air (secret ninja techniques) The only drawback is that the L key popped off. So, I have been eyeing it closely and 1, can not see how to get the derned thing re connected and 2, how it makes contact. Is it the metal pieces in the X that make contact?

So, anyone else had any problems like this?

On some of my older laptops - I was able to press the key back in place. But on the newer ones, Dell has sent us replacement keyboard. There didn't appear to be a way to get it to stick back on.

The good news is - it'll work great in a bartop.  :)

Great Idea!!! Note to self...Console wife about her laptop which will never ever work again.
Note to self part 2...Start designing new cabinet. 


Actually, after I posted this, I worked on getting the key back attached. I think it worked. I can now push it and flick it and it does not come off. There are 2 little metal wings that fit into a little nook I had not seen. Also I now also see a little bar that seems to make contact with the keyboard surface. I do not know if it is pressing a membrane or if it is the actual contact. But I am about to totally blow it out.
