I have posted here the first draft for the marquee I will have on my arcade. Right now there is no background selected, but it will probably be a dark, solid color. maybe a gradient, not sure. Really looking for suggestions on maybe how the characters are laid out, a possible background, and even the font details. Thanks so much for the help!
Oh, it probably doesn't look very good here because its been compressed so much, and its not actual size.
-
Vary hard to read, IMO. I generally like the group photo style, but it just seems very busy to me.
-
I love a collage. What program are you using to put this together?
-
The font you used makes it incredibly difficult to discern the word "anthology".
The font itself looks ok, but it could stand to be jazzed up a bit though.
There's a LOT of composite scarring in the character compilation you've made. You need to remove those white lines around the outlines before you print this.

Thanks for the critiques! Right now its juts a first draft, so once the background is put in and the letters are filled in, it should be easier to read. I'm looking at some different fonts, so it should change some.
A friend of mine has been working on this and she used Photoshop. Definitely need to get rid of the digital scarring though that you mentioned. I'm sure this will be taken care of.
How do you guys think the background should be? Just a solid color or a gradient? Also, how do you think the font should be filled in related to the background? Maybe even a better title? Not sure how I feel about "Arcade Anthology." I just came up with it one day.

I think some sort of starburst pattern would look good. It would make it seem as though they are coming at you like an army.
-
I'm not familiar with how this pattern looks. Can you give me an example please? Thanks!
-
Here's something simple I put together in a few minutes. Since you have such a busy foreground, your background should be subtle in contrast. Well, that's just my opinion anyway.
-
Marquees should be bold and simple but this marquee makes my head hurt...... A lot.
Sorry, but I think you need to start over and this time have a plan.

I agree, too busy. Cut down on the number of characters quite a bit. And I would choose a more legible font.

Alright, so this has been dramatically updated and I need to know what you guys think. I'm very pleased with it.
My only concerns right now are that maybe the Simpsons look like they are getting too much attention, and I'm not sure how this background will work. My arcade is painted black so I don't know if it will clash bad, and not sure how the backlight will look on it. Please let me know!

Much more readable, and less busy. :)

Thanks! Anybody else have some opinions or suggestions? I am ready to get this sent off for printing and want some veteran confirmation that this will look good when back lit, etc. Thanks!

Only because you asked-I like single theme marqs only since the scale of the game is so large. You made a vast improvement to it since the first post.
Make sure you view your layout in the way it will be seen-across the room, or at a several feet away.
Rarely see a commercial layout with this much detail, just my thought anyway.
Post when printed.

looks good, simpler is better. the only thing i would worry about is it may be hard to read from across the room due to the coloring of the lettering and effects being so similar. i'd try printing it out banner style on a few sheets of paper and put it up to get a feel for it.

lose the characters, put a transparent pacman maze or something in the background.
its a GREAT improvement over the first one, but still needs a little work
keep it simple....
maybe turn the C into a actual PacMan , a power pellet in the A (of anthology) and turn the Os into blue ghosts...
but then again you might not want a pacman theme

I agree reminds me of "clip art explosion"

I see the art portions extend themselves to the very edges of the top and bottom of the marquee. Make sure you leave enough blank space at the top and bottom since you'll probably have some retaining clips holding the marquee on and you don't want them covering the art.

^ That's a good call. Thanks for bringing that up.

I do the size of the wood as the blank edges. So, if it's a 3/4" cabinet, I put 3/4" at the top and bottom. I worked on my artwork as the appropriate size, and then I added in the black borders on the top and bottom.
Here is what I sent to the printer:
