Title: A good buy?
Post by: Justin Z on April 10, 2007, 04:57:46 pm
Ran into a guy who has three cabs he wants to get rid of for $100 each.

-Arkanoid (looks original)

-Vs. Super Mario Bros. (this is definitely original with that funny speaker on the front of the control panel)

-World Series: The Season (not too familiar with this one)

What do you guys think?

I'd take both the Arkanoid and Vs. Super Mario Bros. myself.

EDIT: Weren't all Arkanoids conversion kits?

Do they work? Have you seen them?
If they work, then $100 is a good deal.

He claims they work.

I have just learned that control 2 on Vs. Super Mario needs repair.  But apparently all three machines are in otherwise perfectly good working order.

Is the Vs. Mario Bros the same cab as Donkey Kong? There's one available near me, but for a bit more.

Yeah, same design as Donkey Kong and regular Mario Bros.

Sounds like a good deal (at least in my area it would be).

It's NOT a good deal if the monitor is broken, defective or near death.

Its not a good deal if the games don't work.

Its' not a good deal if the cabinet is rotting and falling apart.

Inspect before making any deal.

I have been wanting a World Series: The Season for a while and all of a sudden I have seen several pop up. Where are you located? If near Chicago, I'd take it if you don't.

Yeah, same design as Donkey Kong and regular Mario Bros.

Dedicated Mario Bros came in the widebody cabs, which are different from Donkey Kong cabs.

I will for sure do my due diligence.  But from what I can tell from the small pictures I was sent, they appear to be in great physical shape.  They'll get a twice-over though, no doubt.

Make sure you check the coin buckets too.  Guaranteed to be a good buy if he left, say, $300 worth of quarters in them.   ;)

Haha, true that.

Unforunately, by the time I got home from the office the SMB cab was already sold.  That sort of took the wind out of my sails, and since Arkanoid doesn't seem to be as good as an investment I'm just going to pass.

Too bad!
