no thats not normal.... can you see any cracks in the flyback? are the sparks coming from the flyback or the anode cap?

Well...you need a new monitor.  You can't get new Hantarex flybacks anymore.

Unless someone has a supply somewhere, that is.

That's almost impossible to say. You know what is keeping you from going forward, and $23.00 isn't a lot, so I'd replace the that part and see if anything else comes up.

Bob Roberts, Zanen Electronics, and R.H. Belam (www.belamny.com) all stock Hantarex flybacks here in the USA. In the UK, Suzo has them and Hantarex has a UK office too.

make sure you quote the part number on the side of the flyback when ordering because some later golden tee had polo 2 in them

Isn't THAT interesting.  I've been told by the monitor tech @ East Coast Amusements that they were no longer available.

Unless I'm thinking of the MTC9000, is that still available?

Many, but not all, Hantarex flybacks are available as reproductions/replacements also from the H.R. Diemen company in Spain (distributed in the USA by MCM Electronics).

Ok- just before we throW it out..

With the monitor unpluggged... take a rag and spray it with WD40 wipe the red lead off.

Let it dry for a while and plug it back in... there is a possibility that all of the dust ... has carbonized and the cable is arcing out to the tubes aquadag... by the way make sure the anode does not touch the tubes aquadag.

Just in case you don't know, the aquadag is the area on the bell of the tube that is sort of a powder texture - usualy grey in color. It is actualy the return/ground path for the tube.

After that you will likely still not have a picture???

But check for an orange glow in the neck.

If it is there increase the G2/screen control on the flyback to see if the screen lights up.

BY THE WAY- I DO THIS STUFF EVERY DAY ALL DAY--- SO SOME SAFETY WARNINGS.

BE SURE YOU ARE CONNECTED TO AN ISOLATION TRANSFORMER
DO NOT GO ANTWHERE THE "BLUE SPARK' - THIS IS HIGH VOLTAGE LIKELY AROUND 25000 VOLTS.

ALSO, IF THAT SPARK IS PRESENT IT MAY HAVE KNOCKED OUT THE GAME- DISCONNECT IT FROM THE MONITOR DOING ALL THIS.

Ok after that if the spark, and you have an orange neck glow, and after you turn the G2 up you have a lit screen (this is called raster)

We can move onto other things.

Good luck
