Title: Will PLaystation to USB adapter work with Steering wheel?
Post by: jon on April 13, 2003, 02:55:57 am
I was wondering if playstation steering wheels will work with mame through a PS to USB adapter.  If any of you are currently using this setup...which model Steering wheels are you using?

thanks

i'll second that - not actually used one, but the steering wheel will just emulate one (or both) of the analog sticks...

It will not work very well. Depends on the steering wheel, but mapping arrow keys to the Steering wheel (in the case of digital wheels) works terribly. Trying to use the Wheel in analog mode has proven very hard to configure / tweak in my experience. Still finding it out for yourself for $11 is much better than building an expensive CP and finding it out then.

Actually I have done this with a MadCatz Steering wheel/pedal for the PSX using a PSX->USB connector.  I've had pretty good results.  I have not mounted the steering wheel, but I am planning on removing the steering wheel/assembly from it's case and somehow permanently mounting it on a CP for a dedicated driving cab.

The small amount of testing I have done, I'd say that the wheel worked pretty good.  I've tested it mostly on Chase H.Q. and am satisfied with the results.

Hope that helps...

I bought a Playstation to USB adapter just for this reason and it worked.

I can play games like Daytona 2000 and Any other game thats support of wheel.  I havent tried using it in mame.

The Wheel that I have is called  "V3" I think by Performance.

It was originaly Designed to work in Playstation and Nintendo Via Adapters which were included.

The Playstation to USB adapter that I got accepts any Playstation Controller.

The Wheel is in essence another Controller.

Oh, my bad :)  Anyway, for those who care, the ps2 wheel is just a logitech wheel with extra buttons.  Will work on a PC too :)
