Title: Best way to mount USB ports to cab?
Post by: displacedtexan on April 08, 2007, 04:09:42 pm
So, what's the prettiest way to mount USB ports to allow USB access from outside your cab?

I have searched the forums and these seem to be the two best options:
http://www.frontx.com/order2.html (http://www.frontx.com/order2.html)

http://www.switchcraft.com/products/560.html (http://www.switchcraft.com/products/560.html)

Anybody have any better suggestions?

Thanks!!

These take up less space and plug into your USB port on the computer not directly to the MB.   Easier to get longer extentions depending on your USB connector placement.

I just got a 2' version of the cable BobA shows from a PC recycling place here in Seattle, it was actually built into a computer component, but the whole assembly only cost me $1 and it also had a firewire cable of the same style.  Definitely worth looking for a place like this near you, even if they don't have the exact same part they may (like this one did) have bins of used cables and headers that are really cheap and good for making adapters out of.

I am using a 3.5" "Media Dashboard"  - basically a little plastic box with a 4 port USB 2.0 hub as well as audio I/O and FireWire, Ultra Products ULT33067.

I have two of these mounted on the underside of my CP with a datapro faceplate.  If you're interested, I can take a picture when I get home later.

crpngdth2001,

Did you buy the black or the aluminum?  If the aluminum, does it have datapro's lettering on it?

Thanks!!

Another vote for the switchcraft USB barrel mounts in black.  Installation is simple and only involves drilling a single hole.

Slightly off topic.....thanks for posting that link to Frontx.  They had the female crimp connectors that I was having such a hard time finding.  1.20$ and free shipping.
