I'm kind of short on cash, as I'm a college student. What's the best place to buy a 27" monitor (I'm thinking D2900 or Eygo, but if any others are available, I'd like to hear).
I will probably hold of on buying it until I find a great deal. However, if someone finds a great deal on a smaller monitor (like those "19 VGA wells for $75), please reply, as I'm open to options.
Thanks!

Well here is one.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3412890078&category=174
Buy now is $125 but you could bid on it and wait and you might win the auction for like $100 maybe..can you live with TV connection though...?
The price is VERY reasonable because a 25" s-video tv would be around $250 anyways.
And chance of other people bidding on the monitor are slim because the monitor dont have any TV tuner so its just s-video monitor.
BTW,I just bought a 27" vga/s-video monitor for $128(yesterday). :D
Here is another..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3018176572&category=21517
Only $75 starting bid..he clearly says it has slight burn in but for $75 I would buy. :)

Thanks for the links Snake, I might just snag one of them. Do you think S-vid is OK for maming and also for computer games (ie Ghost Recon...)? I am under the impression s-vid really is fairly crappy, especially if you don't have an ATI card. (the comp I'm maming will have a Geforce 3...)
That's why I figured a vga arcade monitor or just a comp. monitor would be best...
Any thoughts? Drop me a PM if you find any other great deals and feel like sharing!

I have a 19" like that. It has burn too. But even with a 3Dfx card, it still looks just fine for Mame.
-
I went ahead and bought the 27 incher on ebay for a smooth $75. I'm going to pick it up to save the shipping (he quoted me 120 to ship...I live like an hour away).
Thanks for the link Snaaake, I'll post once I rig the beast up

yup, this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3412890078&category=174 went for $1.75 PLUS $60 shipping. And it isn't a PC monitor, so my light gun won't work with it. And the 27" will fit better in my cab. Still a good deal though

Yeah but I live in Seattle so it would have been $0 shipping. :/ oh well.

See I am helpful... :)
Man I soooooo like the "27 inch s-video monitor for $1.75" :D.
I would go for even a tv for only like 2 bucks.
Thats some deal allright ! :D

See I am helpful... :)
who said you weren't?
Anyway, I picked up the monitor today. This one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3018176572&category=21517
It looks great, and is perfect size. 27 viewable = ;D
I have a problem though. Not sure how to interface it to a computer. It has all sorts of inputs for video and sound, but the one I think I am going to be using is a 15 pin input marked "RGB input". Now, it looks exactly like the input that the a PC monitor would plug into on the back of a PC. Do I use some sort of "link" cable that has two "male" heads (think that's what they're called).
Sorry I don't have a digital camera or a webpage to post pics on.
The monitor is:
NEC PG 2740
The guy said I could use the "BNC 15 pin Input Connector" for my computer.
It also has an input that looks like an S-vid cable would go in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

All you need is a male/male VGA cable and you are good to go.
How bad is the burn?
Know yet?
I was REALLY thinking about getting it but since he said there was burn I didnt wanan buy it.
Post back the result....any pic running windows would be great too !
-
Will post when I get my cable. Won't be able to give a pic though. (Don't have a digital camera or webpage to post to). I suppose I could do a scan and upload to some free site...
Anyway, from what I can tell so far, the burn isn't too bad. I think once it's up and running a game or even the desktop, it will be hardly noticeable....I hope!
-
UPDATE:
Hooked it up with s-vid port (couldn't wait for my cable I bought here):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3413076059&category=3668
Anyway, the desktop is a little shakey/blurry, but when I fired up mame for a round of Marvel Vs Capcom....oh man, it was SWEEET!!! It defaulted to 800x600 with the s-vid cable (the comp thinks it's a TV)
The burn in (a few little letters...maybe used as security monitor?) is only noticable on very light screens (ie white), and virtually invisible on medium to dark backgrounds!
I love this monitor...so big! Had my doubts at first, but now...YEHAW!!!Thanks again SNAAAKE for the link! Hey, are you getting that monitor on http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=6743
???
Looks like good deal.
Will update when I get my VGA hd15 cable...

UPDATE:
Will update when I get my VGA hd15 cable...
Sorry I took so long to update this (if anyone even cares?) Anyway, I am currently using the 15 pin connector, (didn't need the male/female adaptor), and it works EXCELLENT! I can play most MAME games in their native resolution.
2 concerns:
Vector games don't work correctly. (resolution too high?) Which brings me to concer 2:
The desktop is 800X600. (It supposedly goes up to 1024 x 768 (http://www.monitorworld.com/Monitors/nec/multisync4pg.html)
But I cannot go past 800X600. Not a big problem, but would be nice to find out more information. Do I need a special video card or something?
Besides those 2 setbacks (possibly fixable), I am very satisified with this monitor, and would recommend it to anyone building a cab.
-
P.S
It also works GREAT for the Actlabs lightgun!
-
figure I post too...I got my 3pg...whooooooooo ! ! !
REALLY nice monitor.
got s-video for consoles/tv.
15pin vga for act labs and dreamcast.
15khz for mame games at their native resolution.
everything ever !
although didnt try mame at 15khz yet...I will post some pics if anyone cares ! :)

It may help you get 1024x768. Good luck.

J_K_M_A_N is the man up this piece ! :D
just wanted to post..how nice he is..willing to trust/send me a programed remote for the nec monitor.
then if works,I send money.
about 90% sure things would work out..wanted to post ! ;D
-
Oh, so J_K_M_A_N is the one that you got your remote off of!? J_K_M_A_N, do you have any others?
Ya, I just saw your post in the other thread...see there...
http://www.arcadecontrols.com/arcade.htm
Snaaake, sure, post those pics! I think people need to see how awesome these monitors are...especially for the price.

Well, let's see what happens with Snaaacks to make sure it works. If it does, I can pick up another from Radio shack and program it and send it to you. All it is is a programmable remote that I program with my NEC remote. I only programmed it to do the things you can't do without the remote. It is a cheap remote but it works and it holds the programming even when you take the batteries out. Snaaack will let us know how it works.

Thanks, I'd really appreciate it if you could get/program me one!
Snaaake, please post back your findings when you get the chance.
Any difference in the remote between the 3PG and 4PG?

That I don't know. I can't imagine they would change them if at all because that would double the production. Usually, I have found that they use the same remote for several models to save money on production. I guess we would find out if all goes well for Snaaack.
